Netflix’s 'The Witcher' Season Two Has Resumed Filming Again

You’re Dandelion, here’s a four-leaf clover.

Filming on Netflix's The Witcher has started again after a second outbreak of coronavirus on its sets meant that the cast and crew had to pause production for a short while.

The second season of the grim and gorgeous fantasy show is anticipated to air in 2021, however, the impact of the pandemic on the entertainment industry may have affected this window. For example, filming on the Uncharted movie had to halt in March, owing to the spread of the coronavirus throughout Germany. This was a major blow to the project which had languished in development hell for more than a decade. In addition, actor Kristofer Hivju (playing Nivellen in the second season of The Witcher) contracted coronavirus at a similar time, and the team paused production for several months.

Thankfully, everyone has stayed safe, and like the Uncharted movie, filming on The Witcher has resumed once more. Redanian Intelligence reported that the cast and crew have returned to Arborfield Studios in Reading, UK, where an entire town is being built, brick by brick. Or, wattle and daub by wattle and daub. Either or, I expect. Fresh faces will join Geralt and the gang, like his mentor, Vesemir. He will be played by the Danish actor Kim Bodnia, which is an inspired bit of casting. You'll probably recognise him from BBC America's Killing Eve, as the surly handler of the assassin Villanelle, so he's an excellent fit for the equally surly Witcher.

Three other Witchers have been cast for the second season, too; Basil Eidenbenz as Eskel, Yasen Atour as Coen, and Paul Bullion as Lambert. In fact, it was Bullion who delivered an impressive performance while making cinnamon rolls for the bake-off that The Witcher team held over lockdown. It's pretty awesome, so check that out if you've got a minute.

Also, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri have all gotten new garms for the next chapter of their journeys. Each of the photos of their new looks were accompanied with a few lines of text, offering a little insight into the events yet to come. We know that Cintra's young princess will shatter her timid and terrified shell, and train in sword fighting. Yennefer is confirmed to return, after a worrying vanishing act in the finale, but her hair is lank and loose, and there are shackles clasped around her wrists. She's in a pickle, it seems, but she's not one to play the damsel in distress. Last but not least, Geralt is rocking a badass set of armor, and it sent the internet into a meltdown. That's it on that front.
