Stardew Valley 'Echo Reef' expansion is a sun-soaked dream come true

A new adventure

Stardew Valley has a new expansion in development that reportedly features over 50 new characters, and it’s one for fans.

Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone is quietly working away at Haunted Chocolatier and future Stardew Valley updates, but that hasn’t stopped the game’s massive modding community from making their own contributions.

Stardew Valley mods are a good way of breathing new life into the nine-year-old game, adding new quests, locations, characters and items.

Echo Reef is a new expansion in development for Stardew Valley which aims to add a whole new town, along with 50 characters that inhabit it. Considering the base game has only 34 NPCs, that’s quite the jump.

In the world of the mod, Echo Reef is a hidden world filled with mystical characters, each with their own events, stories, and items they can sell to you.

You’ll be able to access the expansion from the south-east beach at Ginger Island, where you walk into the water and swim to the bottom of the map to find a boat that’ll take you to Echo Reef.

At the moment, it should be stated that Echo Reef is still in the concept phase and very early in development. Its creator, MrMrRogers, has said as much, writing: “This is a large mod and I wanted to gauge interest before continuing. It is nowhere near finished and is only a basic outline right now.”

As for how far along the mod is, MrMrRogers has said it currently includes “the maps, concept art, and basic dialogue for the characters.” There are also a few images available on Nexus Mods.

So you can expect there’ll be bigger updates to come that’ll flesh it out once enough interest has been generated.
