A new Stardew Valley mod transforms your game into a Resident Evil-esque zombie nightmare.

Stardew Valley is almost ten years old, and the game is still giving me reasons to play it thanks to the healthy amount of custom modded content available.

From new custom NPCs to brand new events and locations, there’s quite a lot of expanded content out there if you look hard enough. Even if that’s inviting the terrifying Duolingo Owl to your farm.

New Stardew Valley Mod Will Add Zombies To Your Town

This new mod seems to be right up Resident Evil fans’ alley, too. Developed by Stardew modder aedenthorn, Zombie Outbreak introduces the concept of zombies and the undead to Pelican Town.

Not quite the vibe I think ConcernedApe had in mind when he first created Stardew Valley, but the mod actually has a few interesting mechanics that some players may find fun to jazz up their next playthrough.

Zombie Outbreak introduces a daily chance for a random villager to become infected with a zombie virus. If a villager becomes infected, their skin turns green and their dialogue will turn into an incoherent jumble of noises.

This dialogue is apparently “fully-articulated” and “grammatically-correct” according to aedenthorn, which should make conversations with the villager quite interesting.

Once a villager is infected, there also becomes a probable chance that they can infect other villagers that they come into proximity with, encouraging you to keep your distance while they’re infected.

Players can also become infected too by coming into contact with a zombie villager, and there are special debuffs for anyone who does manage to get themselves infected.

If you want to reverse the infection, the mod also includes a cure that you can craft with the help of Harvey and Demetrius.

It doesn’t sound like there’s much more to it than that. No special quests or events to signify the impending zombie apocalypse in Pelican Town.

However, given the fun twist the mod employs, I can’t deny this won’t be an interesting little modifier for your next playthrough.

If you’d like to download the Zombie Outbreak mod for Stardew Valley, you can do so now by downloading it from Nexus Mods. Obviously, the mod is only available for PC copies of Stardew Valley, so you're unable to install it if playing on console or mobile.
