Stardew Valley fans who are particularly fond of Sam have a new player expansion to enjoy

Stardew Valley fans who have taken a liking to Sam can now dive into a brand new expansion which drastically improves the game for those seeking a long-term romance with Pelican Town's own music aficionado.

Being one of the 12 characters in Stardew Valley who you can romance, Sam's competition is fierce, but those who are actively pursuing a relationship with him can now expand with the new Kantrip's Older Sam mod.

The idea behind this mod is to present more late-game events and storytelling opportunities for those who are really deep into Stardew Valley's timeline.

The mod makes Sam more mature, with the character now aged 30 instead of early 20s like in the base game.

It adds a load of new events and dialogue for players to experience, not only with Sam, but also with his whole family.

"Sam moved to Pelican Town four years ago to help his mom and little brother while his father went off to serve in war. Sam does everything he can to hold the family together. He works at Joja Mart to earn some extra coin. He smiles as Miss Penny, to make his mom happy. He watches Vincent and helps him with his homework. He does his very best to stay grounded in the present because his past his full of ghosts, and the future? Sam already lost his future," reads a teaser by mod creator Kantrip.

The expansion presents new storytelling opportunities for Sam's family. Watch as Jodi processes her feelings of loneliness while Kent is gone. Try to find a way to help Vincent as he struggles with reading. See Sam smile, and wonder if the humour is genuine or just a mask that's covering something deeper.

The mod includes some darker themes compared to what you might be used to, with a large theme of it revolving around Kent's PTSD from his time in the army, as you see how his experience serving his country has affected him as he missed out on spending pivotal and precious moments with his family.

The mod also has some alternate versions which depend on your choices. There are no right or wrong ways to play it, but the outcome of each character could change depending on your choices.

Some of the new things which can occur include Kent eventually going to therapy, Sam keeping his job and hobbies after moving in, and some new romance options involving dating and marriage.

Although the events experienced in the mod can be done at any time on a fresh playthrough, it's best played with a character who has romanced or befriended Sam, and is quite far along in these relationship developments.

The Older Sam mod for Stardew Valley is peak for those romancing the musician

"I really wanted to see if I could make Sam into a character that I (an older player) felt comfortable romancing," says Kantrip regarding why they decided to create the mod. "A lot of Sam's original character reads way too young to me -- calling Harvey "Uncle Doctor", saying that he doesn't know how to cook and barely cleans up after himself, acting like a bit of a man child after marriage, etc.

"Older Sam still has a lot of golden retriever energy, but he also helps Jodi cook dinner, takes turns watching over Vincent and assisting with the homework, holds down a steady job (that he keeps after marriage) and is handy around the house."

In total, there are 39 new events which are divided between Sam and his family. It also features a custom nickname system where Sam will give you a pet name after his 4 heart event.

Altogether, this is a pretty sweet mod for those Stardew Valley players who love Sam and are romancing him on their current playthrough.
