The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been out for less than a week, and fans have already been able to dig into every detail of the new remake to discover secrets Nintendo has left in.
Whether players are aggro-ing innocent cuccos or discovering the biggest upgrades Nintendo has made to the 1998 classic, there's plenty of new things to find here.
But even after completing the entire game (several times, in some cases), players have now discovered that Nintendo may already have DLC plans.
As discovered by dataminer by the name of MrCheeze on BlueSky, data inside the remake refers to Master Quest in the files.
Advert
In the image shared by MrCheeze below, notice lines of code which refer to things like "MQ" and "DodongoCavern".
Elaborating on this in a follow-up post, MrCheeze said that "Couple strings in the exefs as well giving some context (HasMQ, IsMQModeExist, NewGameMQ, ReleaseMQ)," which hints to some kind of Master Quest DLC being worked on for the post-launch.
Master Quest for Ocarina of Time is a tradition at this point
The original Master Quest was a special re-release of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Nintendo GameCube, which essentially worked as a "New Game+" mode for the original game.
It dramatically altered the difficulty of the game's various dungeons. This ranges from remixing the layout of dungeons, to adding new enemies and changing where Gold Skulltulas are located. In a time where looking up a walkthrough on the internet was a little less common, Master Quest was a great way for players familiar with the original to get a new challenge.
This new version of the game is considered one of the rarest games on the GameCube, as it was only packaged with pre-orders of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker which makes it a hot item for collectors.
Master Quest was also included in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D on Nintendo 3DS, available as a bonus mode upon completing the main quest. This version of the game includes the changes mentioned earlier, but also mirrors the entire game world as well as Link. So left becomes right, right becomes left, and so on. It also features double damage for enemies, making it one of the most challenging bonus modes in the entire Zelda series.
It's unknown if Nintendo will take things a step further with Master Quest for the Switch 2 version of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.
We also can't take this data leak as confirmation that a DLC is in production. As with all rumours, be sure to wait on official confirmation from Nintendo until we can know for sure.
Released earlier this week, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been a reviewed highly by critics and players alike.
In our own 10/10 review of the remake, we called it a "masterful recreation", saying that it "single-handedly justifies the Nintendo Switch 2".
