Fallout: New Vegas is in the midst of getting the remaster treatment, with an updated version of the beloved 2010 game in the works at Bethesda.
Obsidian Entertainmentâs take on the franchise has already witnessed a pretty hefty resurgence this year after it inspired the second season of Prime Videoâs Fallout TV series.
You now have every reason to hop back into this 16-year-old gem again ahead of that remaster being revealed, as a free new co-op mode is now available thanks to a very talented modder.
âNew Vegas True Co-opâ is precisely what it sounds like, allowing players to explore the Mojave Wasteland alongside friends.
Advert
Fallout: New Vegas lacks console mod support, so this one is PC only for now - although weâre hoping to see mod support introduced in that aforementioned remaster.
âNew Vegas True Co-opâ is the work of NexusMods user GargoyleZed.
All player stats and levels are retained when joining a co-op server

You can host your own server, inviting friends to join you, with all involved players playing as their own in-game character.
Quests, fights, loot, voice chat, and text chat are all synced between those in the hostâs lobby, so there really are no limitations on what you can get up to, whether itâs visiting Houseâs casinos or trying to eliminate one of the Mojaveâs many factions.
There is, however, a limit on player numbers with âNew Vegas True Co-opâ currently only supporting a maximum of three players in a host lobby.
Choose your host wisely, as itâs their world that all players will be seeing.
When joining a hostâs world, youâll keep your stats, perks, level, and inventory, with âlate joinersâ boosted up to the hostâs level.
Youâll all share XP, quests, and faction reputation from any completed activities - and as for conversations, whoever starts conversing with an NPC will be the person to pick whatâs said next.
In combat, enemies will split their attention between players, though, instead of simply locking on to the first to strike.
Players are able to track one another using the Pip-Boy map, although doors and fast travel already apply to the whole group, pulling everyone through.
Companions follow the entire party and fight for everyone involved, and if anyone from the party dies, you are temporarily downed with your friends able to revive you.
As you can see, itâs a very comprehensive offering thatâs been really well thought out.
If you want to see the full specifications and requirements of âNew Vegas True Co-opâ, Iâd recommend visiting its listing on NexusMods.

As for the modâs quality in practice, well, players so far are head over heels for it.
âAfter all these years, you made me pick up Fallout: New Vegas again, thanks,â said one response on the modâs listing page.
Another added: âAwesome mod, me and my friend are enjoying it.â
When Fallout: New Vegasâ remaster does surface, itâs very unlikely to add a co-op or multiplayer mode, so thereâs no reason to hold out if you do have a PC. âNew Vegas True Co-opâ is ready and waiting for you right now.
