Over the decades of world-building in The Legend of Zelda, Nintendo has meticulously crafted a range of harsh yet beloved antagonists.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the pinnacle of this, as the series' mainstay foe Ganondorf returns with a power-hungry quest and is complemented by a string of secondary baddies.
From Bongo Bongo in the Shadow Temple to the Twinrova boss fight, the iconic title will see these evil brutes return in all of the dark, demonic glory.
Yet there's one character that is ready to really test the limits of what a remake can achieve, as the Ocarina of Time remake will see Link be met by the hardest enemy yet: himself.
Japanese Ocarina of Time remake trailer shows off Dark Link
In the original game, Dark Link is one of the most memorable characters, possibly extending that status through the entire franchise.

Appearing in the Water Temple's mysterious illusionary chamber, the reflection of his soul resembles Link in almost every respect, except for his dark, shadow-like appearance. He uses Link's own combat techniques against him, making the encounter feel less like a traditional monster battle and more like a confrontation with a dark reflection of the hero.
Challenging players in ways that they hadn't been pushed before, Dark Link was always considered to be one of the toughest boss fights, even if his thematic involvement was never explicitly explained.
Now, the evil reflection has been confirmed to be returning, as a short trailer aired on the Japanese Nintendo YouTube channel has shown us a first glimpse of what to expect - and it's everything we hoped for.
Dark Link's appearance in the trailer is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it snapshot, and it's easy to be overwhelmed after getting a deeper look at enemies such as Morpha, the giant aquatic amoeba, and Ganondorf himself.

Dark Link's aura is unmatched
The opportunity to give Dark Link a new platform to be an iconic baddie offers Nintendo the chance to make an awesome change to the original game and really dive into the troubles that push our hero's demonic side to come out in full force.
But what's evident is that the character will be full of tricks, and the small snippet in the trailer proves as much.
In just two seconds of action, Dark Link steals the show by flipping onto the Master Sword and emoting over his heroic counterpart. I believe the kids called that 'mogged'.
Already, the aura farm moves have caused fans to fall in love with the game all over again, ramping up hype before its release next month.
Taking to the comments, one fan said, "Dark Link was always the scariest part of that game, and the remake finally does him justice."
Another added, "Here there is an audio cue, a camera change, and an aura farming pose. Easy improvement from the original.”
A third said, "Guys, I don’t know if I’m ready for this. I remember crashing out as a kid over this boss."
Link will be back in business imminently with the Ocarina of Time remake, and we can't wait to see what Nintendo has managed to cook up with over 30 years of data-gathering.
