Just a few days ago, Stardew Valley celebrated its 10th anniversary.
It’s hard to believe but it was indeed on 26 February 2016 that Eric ‘ConcernedApe’ Barone initially launched the beloved life sim.
Over the years, Barone has continued to support Stardew Valley with regular updates whilst also working on the game’s spiritual successor, Haunted Chocolatier.
Alongside that though, Stardew Valley has always boasted an incredible modding community, and it’s a mod creation that I’d like to share with you today.

‘Ginger Island Extra Locations - Redux’ does exactly what it says on the tin, adding a ton of new content to Ginger Island which arrived in 2020’s Update 1.5.
Enrich Stardew Valley With 15 New Locations Plus New Puzzles, Items, And More
The mod has been put together by NexusMods user mistyspring, who’s hand crafted 15 new locations including combat zones and “an endgame mining zone”.
Alongside those 15 locations, ‘Ginger Island Extra Locations - Redux’ also adds 18 new animals, 25 new animal produce items, seven artisan goods, 28 new fish, 19 cooking recipes, and 14 new artifacts.
That’s not all; I was just giving you a breather.
There are also two new tool types, one tackle, one fishing rod, and one new bait.
The creator makes reference to “a new mechanic for animals” too, although doesn’t exactly elaborate on what that is.
There’s a new fishing mechanic, “some puzzles here and there”, a new NPC, a new community centre, new difficulty settings, one new monster, one new mining ore, a new shop, “and more”.

All in all, I’d say there’s plenty here to keep players busy.
Of course, as is the case with all mods, you’ll need a copy of Stardew Valley on PC in order to get involved.
Interestingly, the creator also notes that “your actions matter”.
“Depending on what you say (or don’t), the new NPC will disappear forever,” they add.
Whilst ‘Ginger Island Extra Locations - Redux’ is pretty new to NexusMods, it’s already been downloaded hundreds of times.
“This looks so good!! I always dreaded going to Ginger Island because they're so repeated...thank you for making this,” wrote one prospective player.
“I am unbelievably excited. I held out hope for years thinking nothing would ever truly happen but at last it has,” added another.
If you fancy an alternative mod, ‘Pine Village’ is a DLC-sized expansion that adds 10 new locations plus seven new NPCs for you to interact with.
I can also highly recommend ‘Dino Expanded’ which pretty much turns the game into a wholesome version of Jurassic Park.
There’s always something to keep the experience feeling fresh and new.
