Gamers are hoping that an open-world classic might be set for a remaster following a huge developer update, and it’s been a long time coming.

In my humble opinion, the sixth generation of gaming consoles is arguably the best, with the likes of the PlayStation 2, Nintendo GameCube and the original Xbox. Oh, and not forgetting the SEGA Dreamcast.

That console generation brought us a ton of beloved classics from God of War, Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Halo: Combat Evolved, Resident Evil 4, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and much more. It was truly a glorious time to be a gamer.

However, there is another beloved classic game of that year, which perhaps didn't receive quite as favourably as all the games mentioned above, but that didn't stop it from becoming somewhat of a cult classic.

That game is The Simpsons: Hit & Run, a multiplatform title released in 2003.

What is The Simpsons: Hit & Run?

In a nutshell, The Simpsons: Hit & Run is an open-world action-adventure game set in the fictional and animated world of Springfield, the home of The Simpsons TV show. It involves plenty of wacky missions, driving about and punching NPCs in the face. It was seen as a family-friendly version of GTA.

Sadly, due to licensing agreements and whatnot, The Simpsons: Hit & Run never received a sequel, despite its popularity, nor has it had a remake or remaster. The latter of which, fans have longed to see.

Some fans have taken matters into their own hands by creating their own remake, but at the time of writing, there has been no concrete indication that an official remake or remaster of The Simpsons: Hit & Run is on the cards. Well, perhaps that was until now.

As brought to our attention by Redditor nicknp16, the developer of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, Radical Entertainment, has updated its website, and it’s caught the attention of gamers.

Relaunched under the revised name of ‘New Radical Entertainment, the updated website not only features artwork of 2009’s Prototype, but also the aforementioned The Simpsons: Hit & Run.

Could The Simpsons: Hit & Run Finally Be on the Way?

Of course, this website update could mean absolutely nothing. At worst, it could just be highlighting previous games that the developer has worked on, but as a best-case scenario, could we finally be getting the long-awaited The Simpsons: Hit & Run remaster?

Sadly, Reddit user FragMasterMat117 tries to explain the complications of a Simpsons: Hit & Run remaster ever coming to fruition.

“For a potential Hit & Run remake, it’s a mess. Disney owns the IP, EA has the license for games, and Microsoft owns the Source Code,” they said.

I would love nothing more than to have a remake or remaster of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, but it might be wise not to hold your breath waiting for that to ever happen. We’ll keep you posted if we learn more.
