A certified PS2 classic is seemingly making a comeback after a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it ID@Xbox moment.
ID@Xbox returns later this month to show off 18 games from indie developers and self-publishers.
In an article by IGN sharing a teaser trailer for the upcoming showcase gamers spotted a familiar face in the very first second of the video.
“Shrek appears in the announcement video for the upcoming ID@XBOX. Shrek 2 Remastered announcement incoming??” said ShrekHistory on Reddit. With a name like that you just know they were excited.

It’s hard to tell from the split-second glimpse at the famous animated ogre alone, but it does confirm that we’re getting at least one Shrek game. Whether it’s an Xbox-exclusive or not remains to be seen. Now we just need to figure out what it could be.
Shrek 2 seems like an obvious shout. The game first launched on the PS2, OG Xbox, Nintendo GameCube and PC back in 2004, and was a direct tie-in with the film of the same name.
Players took control of several Shrek characters in beat-em-up style levels with puzzles and minigames to break up the action. A rhythm game where you sing and blow up birds with Fiona is one that’s still etched into my mind.
It was good fun and very popular. I owned it myself on Xbox and despite not beating it I’d be more than down to play it again should it get a remaster.
Alternative options could include Shrek SuperSlam or perhaps even a collection of remastered Shrek games. Barbie and Toy Story are getting collections later this year, so why not Shrek too?
We’d settle for Shrek 2 though. It’s obviously the best and one the majority of gamers will have fond memories of, ourselves included.
Come to think of it, there are loads of film tie-in games we’d love to see make a comeback, and with the aforementioned Toy Story collection and potentially Shrek 2 on the horizon there’s a better chance than any to see them return.
Shrek 2’s return could herald the return of film tie-ins; here are a few games I’d like to see again
This could be a little too niche, but I’d love to see Peter Jackson's King Kong: The Official Game of the Movie (yes that’s the full title) re-released on modern platforms. It’s an awesome first-person shooter coupled with great action set-pieces where you play as Kong.
Something a little more realistic would be The Incredibles. With the Toy Story games being brought back I can’t see any reason why The Incredibles should be left out, especially with a third film on the way. Bring back the spin-off too; The Incredibles: Rise of the Underminer.
Another obvious one is all Lord of the Rings tie-in games. We’ve seen a couple Lord of the Rings games brought back and from the sound of things we’re set to get a few more. Again with new films on the way these would sell like hotcakes.
Last, but certainly not least, let’s get some Scooby-Doo games brought back. Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase is elite and we need to see it return.
