Resident Evil 2 director would love to see a cosy game inspired by Stardew Valley starring Leon S. Kennedy.
The Resident Evil series is known for its signature take on the survival horror genre that began in 1996 on the original PlayStation. Zombies, claustrophobic environments, suspense, action, resource management, conspiracy, cheesy one-liners and more.
However, the popular Capcom series isn't known for its cosiness. But, it could be, if Hideo Kamiya, who was the designer on the 1996 original and director of 1998’s Resident Evil 2, had his way.
When replying to a fan on X (formerly Twitter), Hideo Kamiya suggested that he would love to see a retired Leon S. Kennedy being done with fighting the likes of the Umbrella Corporation and going on a cosy fishing trip, and finally enjoying a quiet life away from being munched on by bloodthirsty zombies.
“If I made it, it'd turn into a game where a retired Leon goes fishing in the countryside,” tweeted Kamiya.

“Forages for wild veggies, bakes bread, walks the dog, tends a home garden, drives 50 km to the general store for supplies, invites old buddies over for a barbecue, fixes the neighbour's grandma's oven at her request, sells homemade lemonade at the local festival... but that'd be cool, right...?”

While any concept in the video game industry isn't impossible, as much as it would be an interesting concept, it would be somewhat surprising to see a Stardew Valley-inspired Resident Evil game.
That being said, while that Stardew Valley-inspired game might be more unlikely on PlayStation, Xbox and Nintendo, when it comes to mobile games, pretty much everything is on the table. Like most video game publishers, if Capcom could find a way to create an interesting product with the typical mobile game monetisation, never say never.
When it comes to mainline entries, the next game in the series will be Resident Evil Veronica, a remake of Resident Evil Code: Veronica that was originally released on the SEGA Dreamcast in 2000. However, at the time of writing, the remake doesn't have a concrete date, other than a tentative 2027 launch window.
Before that, fans will be hoping to see the already confirmed story expansion for Resident Evil Requiem at some point this year. Yet, just like Resident Evil Veronica, the story expansion doesn't have a concrete release date either.
That all being said, as soon as we get dates on the upcoming DLC and the remake, we’ll be sure to let you know. Oh, and if the cosy Resident Evil game ever comes to fruition. Of course.
Resident Evil Requiem is out now on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2.
