A new graphics overhaul for Far Cry 5 has given the game a next-gen facelift.
Originally released in 2018, Far Cry 5 was an absolutely gorgeous game for its time. Say what you will about Ubisoft games, but its open worlds are usually very pretty.
Far Cry 5 was built for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Obviously, the hardware wasn’t weak by 2018 standards, but that’s nothing compared to now.
With PC hardware being as advanced as it is, we can now look at what potential remasters of games could look like were they to come to the PlayStation 6. Or, whatever the next Xbox will be called.

YouTuber Digital Dreams, a digital artist that specialises in pushing video game graphics to the max, uploaded a Far Cry 5 video demonstrating the game with photorealistic graphics.
The eight-minute video showcases some of the environments in Far Cry 5’s Hope County, where Digital Dreams has modded the game to feature 8K resolution, upscaled textures, and ray-tracing.
See the video for yourself below. It’s a real thing of beauty.
I remember getting a glimpse of Far Cry 5 back in 2017 and thinking it was one of the best looking games I’d ever seen. It’s still one of the prettiest games Ubisoft has put out, but this video takes it to a whole new level.

“I wish Bethesda made environments like this game,” writes one user in the video comments section. “I really hope they're using Unreal 5 for the next Fallout.”
“Far Cry 5 from 2018 with HD Textures Pack looks better than many 2024/25 games,” another comment wrote. “Still an awesome game with a fantastic story.”
Hopefully Ubisoft is taking notes for when Far Cry 7 inevitably rolls around. It’ll likely be the first Far Cry game to be exclusive to the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S generations (as opposed to also being on PS4 and Xbox One), so it could be a massive jump in graphical quality.
