A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in development, although there’s nothing yet available in the way of a reveal trailer.
Such a follow-up perhaps always felt like a given. After all, Hogwarts Legacy has surpassed 40 million units sold.
It’s with this in mind that I remain baffled, to this day, over the cancellation of both a DLC expansion and Director’s Edition for the game.
That sounds like easy money. Hogwarts Legacy players were practically begging for post-launch content.
Advert
I can only assume any ideas developers had are going to be recycled into the sequel.
Hogwarts Legacy did build some solid foundations, with an engaging story, fun combat system, and promising map.
Hogwarts itself, as well as the neighbouring Hogsmeade, were a delight to explore.
The game was, however, let down very slightly by its repetitive open world.
I’d love to see that rectified in a sequel, plus it would be great to see a companion system and more minigames introduced.
It would be nice if other famous locations were included too like The Ministry of Magic.
It’s been three years since Hogwarts Legacy launched, so here’s to hoping its sequel may surface in the next year or two.
In the meantime, I’d like to direct your attention towards a fantastic remaster which has been pulled off by YouTuber Digital Dreams.
Hogwarts Legacy Running in 8K Offers a Glimpse At What The Sequel Might Look Like
The tech wizard has Hogwarts Legacy running at 8K making use of the ULTRA+ mod pack and running the game on a RTX 5090 9800x3D.
You can then actually copy what Digital Dreams has done, but you’ll need a pretty decent PC to pull this off.
If that excludes you, you may be better off watching the technical showcase below which shows our main character wandering through the open world, both on the ground and in the sky.
Skip ahead to 5:45 to see some awesome dragon flight mechanics. Skyrim, take note.
It’s beautiful to watch a tech demo like this, but I do notice there’s no combat included which can be more demanding.
Still, it’s an interesting glimpse at what a next-gen sequel could be like.
Digital Dreams’ presets and modlists are linked in the video’s description if you do want to try and give this a go.
Otherwise, we’re going to have to sit tight and wait for Avalanche to surface with the announcement we all so desperately crave.
