A sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is confirmed to be in development, although it's yet to be formally unveiled to fans.
By all accounts though, the highly anticipated follow-up could launch much sooner than you were perhaps expecting.
Earlier this year, CEO of Warner Bros Games JB Perrette said that the company will “return to some of our biggest franchises” in 2027 or 2028.
Hogwarts Legacy is, without a doubt, Warner Bros. Games’ biggest gaming property at the moment, already having sold a whopping 40 million copies in just three years.
Clearly, this was hinting towards Hogwarts Legacy’s imminent comeback, but fans weren’t sure whether to expect an announcement or launch in the coming years.
Well, it now appears that the latter is far more likely, as pointed out by fan Twitter/X account XpectoGO.
Avalanche Software, the studio behind Hogwarts Legacy, recently hired a new community manager, Cody.
That may not seem like a very revealing development on the surface, but community managers aren’t typically hired until a game is ready to begin its marketing push.
After all, community managers are there to engage with the community and they can’t do that until there’s a product to promote.

The former community manager, Chandler Wood, was hired in December 2021. Hogwarts Legacy then surfaced in a major way at a dedicated State of Play in March 2022.
As XpectoGO points out, from then on, Wood was involved in the non-stop marketing push leading up to the game’s launch in early 2023.
With Cody’s appointment now having been announced by Avalanche on their socials, it’s leading to speculation that Hogwarts Legacy 2 could be preparing to surface within a matter of months, potentially ahead of a 2027 launch.
As XpectoGO additionally points out, last year, Avalanche also hired a video capture artist specifically to work on Hogwarts Legacy.
That position listed a key responsibility as "capture cinematic gameplay sequences for use in trailers, social media, presentations, etc”.
Again, this suggests the team is preparing to go live with a new marketing campaign, most likely for the sequel given that a DLC and director’s cut of the original Hogwarts Legacy have already been cancelled.
Finally, there’s synergy to consider given that Warner Bros. has already voiced that it wants to link its HBO Harry Potter TV reboot and Hogwarts Legacy together.
The two projects are set within different time periods, but it makes a heck of a lot of sense to have Hogwarts Legacy 2 readily available during what looks set to be another era of Pottermania come December 2026 when HBO’s adaptation begins airing.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone premieres its first episode in December, airing throughout early 2027.

Perhaps Hogwarts Legacy 2 is intended to arrive sometime after to occupy fans until a second season lands adapting Chamber of Secrets.
Hogwarts Legacy’s sequel is, on paper, shrouded in secrecy but when you piece all of these nuggets of information together, it certainly feels as if Warner Bros. Games’ launch plans couldn’t be any clearer.
