It would appear that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is very much still in the works, following a recent tease from Warner Bros itself… which will hopefully put some fans’ minds at ease, considering the media corporation behind the game put itself up for sale back in October.
We’ve known that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in the works for some time now, but Warner Bros has been oddly coy about offering us any specifics surrounding the upcoming project.
Although Warner Bros and developer Avalanche Studios haven’t directly announced a sequel, Warner Bros Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels revealed to Variety back in 2024 that “a successor to Hogwarts Legacy is one of the biggest priorities in a couple of years down the road”.
Following this, the previous president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, David Haddad, also told Variety that Hogwarts Legacy 2 will tie into HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter miniseries, so it’s a little strange that they haven’t formally addressed the sequel’s announcement.

There may be a good reason for that, however. At the end of October this year, Warner Bros Discovery announced that the company is up for sale.

Clearly, this is something that the higher-ups at Warner Bros have been planning for some time, so while work on the sequel has begun, they’re likely waiting until the sale has gone through before officially announcing it.
In case that wasn’t quite concrete enough for you however, there has been a new development in the, uh, development front.

As spotted by Gamerant’s Charming Holiday, new job listings on Warner Bros’ official for Hogwarts Legacy’s developer Avalanche Studios have just gone live on their careers page.
While said job listings don’t outright state that they’re for Hogwarts Legacy 2, they may as well.
For instance, a new listing for an Executive Producer at WB Games states that they’re looking for someone to “lead the production of a high-quality single-player Action-Adventure RPG, from concept to launch and beyond.”
“This senior leadership role involves managing cross-functional teams, driving the game’s vision in conjunction with the Game Director, managing budget and timelines, and collaborating with internal and external stakeholders, including the publishing team, to ensure a successful product”, reads the job listing.

Considering the first game’s financial success, Warner Bros is almost definitely going to assign Avalanche Studios the task of developing its sequel, so I’d be surprised if this job listing is for literally any other game.
Still, we’ll have to see how Warner Bros Discovery’s upcoming sale pans out before we can say anything for certain, because there’s always a chance that their new owners will want to change things drastically.
