Batman fans losing their minds over Arkham Knight sequel teaser

Crossing my fingers for Batman: Arkham Beyond

Reports of a new Batman Arkham game being in the works just keep piling up, and fans are starting to believe that it may genuinely be on the way.

It all began back in September 2023, following a Tweet from Xbox Era’s Nick Baker that implied Rocksteady Games, the original developers behind the Batman Arkham games, were working on a new Batman game (something that Sony was supposedly very interested in, according to Baker).

After this point, the news was pretty sparse for quite some time. The story did make its way through the news cycle again, with one leaker stating that it was set to be a PlayStation 6 exclusive, but the story itself was mostly just recycled.

However, we did get some hints at the game’s future back in February.

As reported by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, Warner Bros. Discovery President and CEO David Zaslav stated in a financial meetings call that the company had shifted its focus to the “development efforts” on several core franchises, including Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, and DC, “in particular, Batman”.

Zaslav also later teased that Rocksteady Studios “is looking to return to Batman for a single-player game”.

Then, in the same month, Rocksteady Games posted a job listing for a new game director, which specifically stated that they were looking for something with “strong design leadership and experience across multiple genres, particularly Third-Person Action, Melee Brawlers, and Open World Traversal games”.

Third-person action? Melee brawlers? Open world traversal? I know they don’t explicitly mention Batman but c’mon, they basically just described Batman: Arkham City.

In short, although nothing is outright confirmed at this point, every single bit of info points to Rocksteady Games being in the midst of developing a new Batman title.

However, following the passing of Batman’s voice actor Kevin Conroy and The Joker’s voice actor Mark Hamill outright stating that he won’t work on a new Batman property without Conroy, it seems that Rocksteady may have to go in a new route for the next entry.

Maybe they could bring back the fan-favourite spin-off, Batman Beyond? Batman: Arkham Beyond, maybe?
