Steam’s latest RPG remake drops surprise free day one DLC all PC players can claim

Steam users who bought Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon this week have already been treated to a free DLC available on Day 1.

Released earlier this week, Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko’s Mystery Dungeon is a remake of 1993’s Torneko's Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon, bringing the game to international audiences for the first time.

If you’re playing the game, you may not be aware of a free DLC that also launched for the game on the first day of release.

The DLC, titled Streaming Up a Storm: My Dungeon, Your Rules, is a free piece of content aimed at streamers who want to get their audience involved.

The content features new interactive streaming features where you can let viewers join in on the adventure. In a unique dungeon, viewers can influence your journey directly through YouTube or Twitch chat, using votes, choices, and other chat elements to change up how you play.

Every few floors of the dungeon, a mystery event occurs where the outcome is determined by a vote coming directly from viewers, either your entire audience at once, or a single viewer chosen by you.

The DLC is available for free now, which you can pick up with every copy of Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon is a throwback to the 1993 original

Released earlier this week, Dragon Quest Heroes: Torneko's Mystery Dungeon is based on Torneko's Great Adventure: Mystery Dungeon, which was only released in Japan in 1993. Finally out for an international audience, the game has got a slick graphics overhaul along with a lot of quality-of-life upgrades.

Taking place following the events of Dragon Quest IV, the game features Torneko, a bloke who wishes to become a leading force in weapons merchandise.

After he hears of a mysterious dungeon that is rumoured to contain incredible treasures that no one has ever managed to bring back, he sets out for the mystery dungeon himself in search of fortune and glory.

Playing out like a traditional roguelike, every time you enter the mystery dungeon, it takes on a new form. Items and monsters will change with each expedition, as will the exact layout of the dungeon itself. What’s more, you always begin at Level 1, amping up the difficulty.

It’s a turn-based game, meaning you don’t need to worry about being speedy. However, that doesn’t make it a breeze. Whenever Torneko moves, the monsters move too, and that turns every decision you make into a matter of survival.

Defeat enemies to level up, gain new items and equipment, and grow stronger to help expand Torneko’s shop.
