Final Fantasy gamers given free demo of upcoming AAA RPG perfect to fill Revelation wait

While we wait for Final Fantasy 7 Revelation, RPG fans have been given a new free taster of an upcoming game that will surely tide us over until the game releases.

Announced earlier this year, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World was revealed as the latest entry in the Dragon Quest sub-series.

Arriving in December, the game will be the first Dragon Quest Monsters game to be released since 2023’s Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince.

As revealed earlier today on the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct, Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World is getting a free demo for players to check out if they can’t wait for December.

Whether you’re a die-hard Dragon Quest fan eagerly awaiting the next entry in the franchise, or a complete newbie wanting to try it out for the first time, the demo for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World should be a great entry point for you.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World demo is now available for all players to pick up

The playable demo allows you to play the game from the very beginning of the story up until the conclusion of the events in Witherwood, the first main area of the game.

It’ll get you up to date on the recruiting, raising, and synthesising of monsters during gameplay, and is a decent introduction to the game if you’re thinking about purchasing it later on.

For playing the demo, you’ll also get a few bonus freebies that you can use in the full game. Playing the demo for Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World will nab you the Wrangler’s Bundle, which includes the Ring of Impulse, Bonus Ball, and five Smoked Sirloin.

In addition to that, you’ll also be able to transfer your save data from the demo into the full game, including the monsters in your main party and reserves, so you can use them again later on.

Square Enix clarifies that certain aspects of the game may differ between the demo and the full version, while monsters in your party can only be transferred from the demo to the full version if you’re playing on the same platform.

Certain items and gold also can’t be transferred to the full game, and you’ll need to recollect them should you end up purchasing Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World.

Meanwhile, there are some early purchase offerings to be had as well if you end up buying the full game. By purchasing Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World by January 5, 2027, you’ll gain access to the Adventure Starter Set, which includes 10x Monster Munchies, 3x Bonus Balls, and 5x Seeds of Skill.

This is in addition to the Hearty Meat Set, which you can get by buying any digital version of the game. It includes 5x Monster Munchies, 5x Smoked Sirloins, and 5x Meaty Treats.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Withered World will be released on December 3, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2.
