Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 is almost here, bringing new maps, modes, weapons and more to the latest entry in the Call of Duty series. Here's everything you need to know about what's coming to multiplayer and the returning DMZ mode.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 launches on November 6, 2026, across all platforms where the game is available. The first major seasonal update brings new content to multiplayer and DMZ, although not everything will arrive on launch day, with additional content rolling out throughout the season.
Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 adds three multiplayer maps at launch, with more arriving later in the season. Players can also expect two new weapons in the Season 1 Battle Pass, new multiplayer modes, new DMZ bosses and a new location to explore. We'll update this article as more content arrives throughout the season.

What to expect from Modern Warfare 4 Season 1
As with previous Call of Duty seasons, Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 is a free update that will download and install when you launch the game. However, while much of the content is free, some rewards are locked behind the paid Season 1 Battle Pass, as is often the case with live-service games.
Multiplayer maps
Backstab (launch)

Advert
Backstab is a new, medium-sized 6v6 map set in a snow-covered, war-torn town. Abandoned buildings and tanks litter the landscape, while the open streets offer opportunities for long-range combat and the buildings provide plenty of close-quarters action.
Canyon (launch)

Canyon is a new, medium-sized 6v6 map set in sun-scorched terrain surrounded by towering rock walls. Its wide-open spaces and winding paths offer plenty of opportunities for firefights, while the higher ground and narrow routes make it easier to ambush unsuspecting enemies.
Shoot House (launch)

Shoot House is a reimagined version of the popular map from 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, now set in North Korea during a light snowfall. This medium-sized 6v6 map features three main lanes, with the southern Junkyard, central tunnels and northern Containers offering different ways to approach the fight.
As for the maps still to come later in the season, we'll be getting:
- Ministry: A battle breaks out at the Global Peace Summit, with Operators fighting inside and around an embassy as the building takes damage. With tensions running high, it's a diplomatic summit where only the most aggressive tactics will win.
- Overflow: Set around a factory and the surrounding farmland, Overflow sees a convoy of mobile rocket launchers firing projectiles in the distance as the fighting unfolds.
Activision has also promised additional maps at mid-season, with more details expected in the Season 1 Reloaded announcement.
It's also worth mentioning that the well-known map Shipment arrived as pre-season content on October 27, 2026.

We'll also be getting a featured Kill Block: Crash combo. It combines three map sections into one fixed layout, with Infinity Ward choosing the combination based on the most popular setups from the Modern Warfare 4 beta.
Multiplayer modes

Possession (October 29) – New mode
Possession is a fast-paced party mode where killing an enemy lets you take over their body and steal their loadout, instantly transporting you to their location. Just be careful who you eliminate, as you'll always possess your target.
Infected (October 30) – Returning mode
Infected is a team-based party mode where one player starts infected and must eliminate Survivors to grow the horde. The Infected rely on speed and stealth, while Survivors use heavier weapons to hold them off. Infect everyone or survive until the end to win.
Grind (launch) – Returning mode
Grind is a team-based mode where you eliminate enemies, collect their dog tags and deposit them at either of the two Banks on the map to score points. You can carry multiple tags, but you'll drop them all if you're eliminated.
Drop Zone (launch) – Returning mode
Drop Zone is a team-based mode where players fight to control a rotating objective. Airdrops deliver random Killstreaks to help you defend the zone or take it back from the enemy.
Gauntlet 1v1 (launch) – Limited-time mode
Gauntlet 1v1 is a Wager Match mode where players bet their trophies and face off against an opponent. The winner stays on to challenge the next player, with multiple wins needed to claim the reward.
Activision has also teased several additional modes for mid-season, including Counter Attack, where players must detonate bombs at the enemy Comm Station while protecting their own.
Another upcoming mode will add a new twist to the Team Deathmatch formula, with more content expected to arrive alongside the Season 1 Reloaded update.
New DMZ area

DMZ is getting a new location, X01, a previously undiscovered weapons facility seized by North Korean forces near the country's northern border. The former Russian facility was once a GRANIT Arms black site and features a maze of tunnels, passageways and chambers, with multiple floors to explore and plenty of danger waiting inside.
DMZ content summary
The following details come from the official Call of Duty blog.
- Infiltrate X01: North Korean forces have taken over a former Russian facility on the edge of Hajin. Players can explore cargo bays and vehicle depots, descend into underground labs and production lines, and attempt to infiltrate the sealed Deep Vault. The facility's maze of tunnels and shifting hazards will require careful planning and teamwork.
- New Orders and threats: Ghost will guide Operators through new DMZ Orders as they push deeper into X01. Further information about the threats inside the facility remains classified.
- New gear, extraction and events: Players can expect new equipment, seasonal events and special Commander Hunts. As extraction points begin to close, Operators will need to complete the required steps to escape.
Further details on the new DMZ area, Orders, intel, FOB (Forward Operating Base) enhancements, stations and events can be found in the official blog post.
