According to Take-Two’s Strauss Zelnick, who appeared on CNBC last month, he referred to the delay of GTA VI as being “a pretty short delay, it’s less than six months”.
This has sparked conversation from fans, speculating that by his time schedule, we would have originally had GTA VI by Christmas 2025.
Given that the game would have made the perfect Christmas gift for fans, it’s disappointing that it was pushed back from this potential date, and fans over on Reddit feel that disappointment.
“God damn, a launch around Christmas would have been magical,” said snooprs after reading the news.

“A lot of people's work places close around Christmas so they don't need to take vacation days," commented one user, after another fan pointed out summer is the better launch.
I very much agree, and so does this user, who said, “Plus worse weather so less pressure to go outside!”
Let’s be honest, whenever GTA VI launches, players aren’t going outside; it’ll be a miracle if they can even remember what grass feels like after a week with the game.
Of course, this is the GTA subreddit, so fans are going to be excited over any crumb of information.

One Redditor points out, “He’s literally just trying to downplay the delay as much as possible, which is his job, it’s wild how many people are clinging to this like there’s some super secret date he’s trying to reveal here that existed.”
They’re right, the date that Zelnick is referring to could have been one set internally, a time we haven’t considered.
There’s hope in the thread, as a fan notes, “Only a six-month delay kinda makes me think they really will get it out in May bc if it had been any longer, like eight months or a year, then it would seem like the game is still not done.”
These conversations will continue until the game is finally in everyone’s hands.
