We're not trying to wish our lives away, but it's time to look ahead at what's on the way in 2027. It's fair to say that 2026 is flying by in the blink of an eye, and when it comes to the world of gaming, that can be seen as a good or a bad thing.
While we’re sure the big three of Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony would like to quickly skirt past some of the more scandalous headlines, 2026 is looking like it'll be gaming's biggest year yet. Away from their respective exclusives of Gears of War: E-Day, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake, and Marvel's Wolverine, the year is due to be rounded off in style by the juggernaut that is GTA VI.
Only a fool would release a title anywhere near its November 19 launch window, but when the dust eventually settles, we've got a smorgasbord of AAA games to enjoy next year
With this in mind, here's every major release on the way in 2027.

Crystal Dynamics is again whipping out its dual pistols as Lara Croft swings back into action with Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis. With assistance from Flying Wild Hog, and being published by Ms. Croft's new home over at Amazon Games Studios, Crystal Dynamics has the daunting task of rebuilding the OG Tomb Raider from the ground up. A lot has changed since Lara first arrived on the PlayStation in 1996, namely that Legacy of Atlantis will no longer be a PS-exclusive release.
Although Lara's much-hyped return has been hit by a delay, we agreed it should be worth the wait for another go at this 'dino-mite' adventure.
Taking a gamble with a distant prequel to the Like a Dragon games, Stranger than Heaven promises to be another butt-kicking delight. Flex your fists of fury as Makoto Daito (voiced by Yu Shirota), a Japanese-American outcast who flees San Francisco to start a new life in Japan. This sprawling saga unfolds over 50 years and gives us an origin story for the Tojo Clan. Due to its historical setting, expect fewer minigames than previous Yakuza games. Away from musicians like Snoop Dogg and Tori Kelly providing their vocals, look out for the likenesses of the late Tupac Shakur and the legendary Japanese actor Bunta Sugawara.
Archetype Entertainment is a new studio founded by former BioWare developers James Ohlen, Chad Robertson, and Drew Karpyshyn. Hoping to make a splash with Exodus, the first outing is a sci-fi RPG that's seen as a spiritual successor to others in the genre. The fact that Oscar-winning Matthew McConaughey is voicing the main character of C.C. Orlev means Exodus generated plenty of buzz when it was revealed at The Game Awards in 2023. With Hasbro hoping to expand further into video games, we've already seen Exodus‘ world grow in the form of a 2024 novel titled Exodus: The Archimedes Engine.
When we’ve hopefully moved past the bizarre discourse around women in Fable not being ‘attractive’ enough, Playground Games is sure to score a hit in 2027. Remembering the closure of Lionhead Studios and cancellation of Fable Legends, it’s fair to say we’ve waited more than long enough for Fable to release.
Still, with Xbox CCO Matt Booty saying Fable was moved from its original release window to February 2027 to give it the “dedicated moment it deserves,” the Green Team was wise to get well out of GTA VI’s way.
This open-world action-RPG reboot of the beloved Xbox franchise is about as big as they come, and although this new Fable is no longer a Microsoft-exclusive, we’re more than happy that PlayStation fans can also join in on the fun.

We're ready to catch 'em all in 2027, as Pokémon Winds and Waves looks set to put a nautical spin on the monster-catching Goliath. We're already in love with Browt, Pombon, and Gecqua, but with Gen 10 tipped to have the biggest Pokédex yet, the family is destined to expand. Then again, with a massive open-world region of rocky cliffs and sandy coves to explore, we'd expect nothing else. Nintendo is waving goodbye to the Switch for this pair of Switch 2 exclusives, and with it, we could be targeting a glossy 60 fps performance. Those glossy waters are sure to shine, but after Scarlet and Violet got a somewhat frosty reception in 2022, let's hope these 30th anniversary celebrations won't 'sink' to the bottom of the franchise rankings.
The Metro series continues to chug along in apocalyptic misery, bringing Dmitry Glukhovsky's nuclear novels to life. Picking up the story four years after the events of 2019's Metro Exodus, Metro 2039 follows a former Metro resident called the Stranger as they venture into post-apocalyptic Moscow and take on an authoritarian regime that's united the various warring factions as Novoreich. Returning to the Moscow Metro means you can expect a more confined backdrop when compared to larger scale of Exodus. Still, Glukhovsky has promised the darkest entry yet, saying the real-life toll of Russia's invasion of Ukraine has influenced the story.
Toys For Bob might've seemingly parked plans for Crash Bandicoot, but fear not, Spyro is ready to take flight once again. The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon didn't exactly set the world alight in 2008, but after Toys For Boy realised there's still a lot of love for the IP when releasing Spyro Reignited Trilogy, someone had the brilliant brainwave to go for a full-blown platforming standalone. When Spyro: A Realm Beyond releases, it will have been nearly two decades since the purple hero has had his own mainline adventure, but only time will tell whether he's grown old gracefully or everyone's moved on. For those asking why it's not called Spyro 4, the fact that you can have limitless free flying means it's seen as more of an evolution.
It's been a long time coming, but finally the third and final part of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy is here. You might think you know how the concluding chapter of Cloud Strife's endevaours to stop Sephiroth and prevent the looming Meteor goes, but as the first two parts of the Final Fantasy remake trilogy have proven, all bets are off when it comes to Final Fantasy VII Revelation. Breaking from tradition, this is the first of the three games to ditch PlayStation exclusivity, while you'll also be able to parachute directly into the map from the Highwind as another new perk.
We also can't wait to try out the FITS (Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear) system, that vows to bring over new skills and abilities from classic Final Fantasy classes.

The black sheep of the Resident Evil series is getting the TLC it deserves, with Resident Evil Veronica revamping 2000's Resident Evil – Code: Veronica in the vein of Capcom's recent remakes. The 2023 Resident Evil 4 remake had us fearing we'd skip over Code: Veronica, but thankfully, the developer has realised the money-making potential of this one. The first trailer teased that this will be much more than just a rehash of the Dreamcast darling, and considering some people have been complaining about Code Veronica for the past 26 years, it's more than due for some attention.

Somewhat confusingly, 2027's Lords of the Fallen II is the third entry in the Lords of the Fallen franchise. Even though 2023's Lords of the Fallen reboot received mixed reviews, it sold enough units to warrant a sequel. Again delayed from 2026, fans have been taught that patience is a virtue in a story that takes place a millennium after the events of its predecessor. We're forced to make our away across the crumbling kingdom of Thorngar, where the parallel realms of the living and the dead continue to collude with devastating effect.
Just when you think you're out, they drag you back in. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is rightly held as one of the greatest video games of all time, while its two expansion packs were equally lauded. Even as most eyes are on The Witcher 4, CD Projekt Red is returning to Geralt's story for a 'narrative prologue' that bridges the gap between old and new. Just like Blood and Wine was massive, Songs of the Past's $14 million budget warns that this is going to be a colossal undertaking.
Kratos is down but not out, as Santa Monica Studio once again pivots to someone new. 2018's God of War didn't exactly give us much time with Faye before she shuffled off this mortal coil, but that's all set to change in God of War Laufey. There's already backlash against the first entry that won't focus on Kratos, but in Santa Monica, we trust. A pretty epic peek at the title showed off just a fraction of The Everywhen, and even though talking jelly cubes and swords might not be for everyone, this looks like a bold female-first take on the mythological megagiant. Unless God of War Laufey gets a shadow drop ahead of schedule, it's poised to be one of 2027's biggest games.

How do you top one of the scariest video games of all time? Just like James Cameron simply added more aliens to Alien, it looks like Creative Assembly is going down the same route with Alien Isolation 2. We might not have needed a change of underwear when we first checked out Alien Isolation 2, but with the OG continuing to surprise as we crawled through the vents of the Sevastopol, we're sure we'll be hiding behind the cushions before too long. There's no sign of Amanda Ripley just yet, but given everything she went through in Alien Isolation, we'll be okay if she gets left with her happy(ish) ending.

The future of Ninja Theory is up in the air amid all those Xbox studio closures, but out of all the misery, Senua lives to fight another day. Only recently announced at the June 2026 Xbox Games Showcase, Senua is the third chapter in the Hellblade series. Designed as a much bigger action-adventure game, Senua takes our titular heroine and throws her into a horrifying purgatory that echoes her childhood homeland. Armed with dual-wielding and perception-altering 'Focus Abilities', Senua has to heal from her real-life wounds and unlock the gates to the afterlife to escape this nightmarish limbo.
Finally, Dungeons & Dragons fans can feast on Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons. Developed by the new Invoke Studios and published by Wizards of the Coast, Warlock has been generating hype since it was revealed at The Game Awards 2025. Putting you in the shoes of Kaatri (played by Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer), you play as a veteran warrior who decides to wield forbidden, otherworldly magic. This third-person single-player outing is said to lean into 'expressive magic' as you use spellcraft to take down monsters and solve puzzles with gusto. While Warlock will hopefully breathe new life into the D&D IP, we're still sobbing that we're not getting an Honor Among Thieves sequel.
