breaking news

If you’re a Dungeons & Dragons fan, you’re not going to want to miss this latest announcement; Warlock, a new AAA action-adventure, has officially been announced by Invoke Studios.
Geoff Keighley’s The Game Awards is underway, bringing with it a boat load of world premieres.
Tonight may be about celebrating the very best games of the last 12 months, but it’s also an opportunity for the industry to look to the future.
You may be hyped about what’s coming in 2026, but already we’re being asked to think beyond that as Warlock has been revealed for 2027.
Advert
Developed by the new Invoke Studios and set to be published in 2027 by Wizards of the Coast, Warlock is a AAA third-person, single-player action-adventure title.

The game’s glossy new cinematic trailer doesn’t give a ton away beyond briefly introducing the game’s magic-wielding protagonist Kaatri - portrayed by actress Tricia Helfer - who is marked by a dangerous pact.
As luck would have it though, GAMINGbible had the opportunity to catch up with Invoke Studios ahead of the reveal.
Magic Is at the Heart of Warlock
If you’re familiar with Dungeons & Dragons, you likely won’t be surprised to learn that magic is at the heart of Warlock’s gameplay.
And for those who are totally clueless, don’t worry; developers made it clear that Warlock requires no former D&D experience.
As an action-adventure game, magic within Warlock has many uses.
Kaatri will use her power to fend off monsters in combat but also to solve puzzles and traverse the game’s world.
Developers were careful not to give too much away, instead teasing that magic works in a number of unexpected ways … whatever that means.
I can tell you that Warlock is a narrative-driven experience and while it does have a predetermined story, it is a game that actively values player agency.
I’m quite excited by the fact that devs are classing this one as an action-adventure when creating an RPG was perhaps the most obvious route given the source material.
Just think of the incredible action-adventure titles that have landed in the last decade or so; The Last of Us, God of War, and Red Dead Redemption 2 all spring to mind.
Could Warlock become a new modern classic? It’s far too early to say but I’m certainly excited about what it promises to deliver.
Ahead of The Game Awards, developers described the game as “mature”, adding that it has both “darkness” and a “strange beauty”.
Certain members of the narrative team previously worked on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, an underrated title with a very engaging story, so that bodes well.
A Gameplay Reveal is Coming
I’m sure, like me, you’re itching to see some gameplay; we’ve all been burnt by cinematic trailers that don’t always reflect the quality of the final product.
Thankfully, devs have already confirmed that a full gameplay reveal is due in summer of 2026, so we’re talking in the region of June to August.
That could mean that Warlock may be planning to resurface at Summer Game Fest or Gamescom’s Opening Night Live.
Warlock is coming to both console and PC, with PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S listed as launch platforms.
This is definitely an exciting reveal, and a game we’ll be keeping a very close eye on.
