Skyrim meets Baldur's Gate 3 in staggering new sandbox RPG

Featuring a Tom Hardy cameo

This upcoming RPG looks like a fun mix between two of my favourite games, includin– holy crap, is that Tom Hardy?!

If you’ve clicked on this article, I’m going to assume you’re a big fan of open-world melee-focused games like Skyrim. I’m going to go a step further and assume that you’re also a fan of the turn-based, tactical gameplay in Baldur’s Gate 3.

I’m also going to assume you’re a fan of Tom Hardy, because really, who isn’t?

Well, in that case, you’ll want to check out the trailer for the upcoming game Chronicles: Medieval, an open-world RPG from developer and publisher Raw Power Games.

Although if you watched the 2025 Summer Game Fest back in June, you might have already seen this one. That’s why, instead, I suggest you check out the new “Vision Video” on Chronicles: Medieval’s Steam page instead, as it goes into a lot of detail regarding exactly what we’ll see in the full release.

Speaking of, when will we be able to play this one for ourselves? Not until 2026, by the sounds of things. The game will be entering early access at some point next year, although the devs haven’t committed to a specific date yet.

If you’re a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series S/X owner though, you’ll have to wait a little bit longer. The devs have confirmed that they’re targeting a later 2026/2027 release for the console ports, once the Steam version of the game has left early access.

More importantly, however, will Tom Hardy actually be a playable character in the full game?! No. Probably.

According to an article by IGN’s Imran Khan, Hardy only did the voice over for the trailer because… the developers emailed him, and he said yes.

Huh. Didn’t realise it was that easy. Be right back, I’m just gonna try and find out exactly what email they used.
