GOTY winning AAA RPG drops 15 minutes of gameplay for sequel, and it’s definitely one to watch

Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the next game in Game Science’s acclaimed Black Myth series following 2024’s Black Myth: Wukong, has just received 15 minutes of stunning new footage, giving fans their first major look at the upcoming Chinese mythology action RPG and leaving them seriously impressed.

Black Myth: Wukong was one of the best games of 2024, a year that also saw the release of Astro Bot, the Silent Hill 2 remake, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, to name a few. It’s inspired by the classic Chinese novel, Journey to the West. It features fast-paced and challenging combat, epic boss fights, and sublime visuals.

It’s fair to say that Black Myth: Zhong Kui, announced in August 2025, has big shoes to fill following the success of Black Myth: Wukong. However, judging by its latest 15-minute gameplay reveal, the upcoming action RPG is already shaping up to be one of the most promising new releases on the horizon.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui unveils 15 minutes of stunning new gameplay

The stunning Black Myth: Zhong Kui gameplay reveal has been published on the game’s official YouTube channel, and it’s already proving to be a huge hit with fans. It also provides a first look at its protagonist in direct combat.

At the time of writing, roughly nine hours after its release, the 15-minute gameplay video has surpassed 900,000 views, alongside nearly 7,000 likes and fewer than 100 dislikes. If those numbers are anything to go by, fans are clearly blown away by what Game Science has shown so far.

What’s the story of Black Myth: Zhong Kui?

Rather than being based on a legendary novel, Black Myth: Zhong Kui is a totally new story starring a new hero, Zhong Kui.

However, it will still have plenty of enemies and worldly elements inspired by Chinese mythology, so don’t worry about that. But this is very much a standalone story and is technically not a direct sequel. It will also introduce new combat mechanics.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui doesn't have a release date at the time of writing, though it does appear that its development is coming along. Hopefully, we might see it released sometime in 2027.
