A new upcoming RPG has been described as “the next Black Myth Wukong” while also blending aspects of God of War, and we can’t wait to see more.
Swords of Legends is an upcoming RPG by developer Shanghai Aurogon Studio that is set in the GuJian series, a franchise that has been running since 2010. It proved to be a popular RPG at the time, and it even went on to spawn several sequels and a television adaptation.
It looks like the new game might be able to bring back some of that popularity, as impressions to the first trailer have been comparing the game to God of War and Black Myth Wukong.
Judging from what we know so far, the developer is using Unreal Engine 5 to build the game out, a choice that seems to be paying off considering how beautiful it looks.
Advert
Considering this new wave of action-adventure games coming out of China, it looks like this might also appeal to the Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, Where Winds Meet, and Phantom Blade 0 crowd.
However, unlike some of those games, the developer has stressed that Swords of Legends is not a soulslike. So, don’t expect respawning enemies, deep character customisation, and aggressive difficulty, as that doesn’t seem to be the priority set here by the developer.
Judging from the trailer, the game’s imagery is heavily influenced by Chinese folklore and mythology, and from what little we see in the trailer, we can get an idea of the kind of enemies and environments that’ll be featured.
There’s no set release date yet for Swords of Legends. It’s looking quite far along in development at the moment, at least from what we can see in the trailer. But, realistically, this probably isn’t coming any sooner than late 2026 or 2027.
