Gamescom continues to get underway with Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live showcase still in the midst of airing.
Keighley has once again teamed up with Invoke Studios and Wizards of the Coast to offer a brand new look at Warlock after the title was previously unveiled at 2025’s The Game Awards.
The AAA third-person action-adventure title is single-player and set within the Dungeons & Dragons universe, perfectly filling the gap in the industry left behind by the lack of a Baldur’s Gate 3 sequel.
Truthfully though, Warlock feels much more similar in ilk to The Witcher, which also stopped by Opening Night Live to fully unveil its upcoming Songs of the Past DLC.

As for Warlock, we now know that Maggie Robertson - of Resident Evil Village fame - is joining the cast, with the title dropping a first-look at gameplay having previously only offered gamers a cinematic trailer to get hyped.
The combat displayed in the new trailer is obviously very magic focused, with lead character Kaatri - portrayed by Tricia Helfer - making use of various spells and enchantments.
The narrative follows Kaatri's attempt to navigate the world after she’s marked by a dangerous pact.
In the trailer, we see precisely what Kaatri’s use of magic looks like in action as she takes down ferocious beasts and solves environmental puzzles. Again, The Witcher vibes are very, very strong here.

We should expect a strong narrative as several members of the Warlock team previously worked on Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
While that title perhaps didn’t sell quite as well as expected, its narrative is completely brilliant and deserves more attention than it gets.
We mentioned that Maggie Robertson had joined the cast. She'll portray witch queen Tasha, also known as Iggwilv, who acts as Kaatri's patron throughout the experience.
“I think this game is different because we’re following one character’s story,” Robertson said in a new interview with Variety. “With Baldur’s Gate [3], you really got to choose your own adventure. You picked your party, and every playthrough could be completely different. Here we’re diving deeply into one character’s backstory, emotions, and motivations."
She continued, "That’s what makes it exciting — we’re focusing on the story and getting to know Kaatri. Warlock takes us through the relationships of these specific characters, Tasha and Kaatri. Instead of being pulled in many different directions, we’re asking players to focus on one relationship with a lot of emotional depth.”
Warlock is set to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game still hasn’t narrowed down a release date beyond 2027, so it’s likely targeting the middle or end of next year.

Helfer, who portrays lead Kaatri, added, "But as Maggie mentioned, the game is very focused on Kaatri and her quest. Along the way, there’s also a wonderful team that joins her on the journey. We really get to understand her, know her motivations, and hopefully become captivated by the emotion driving her. And you’ll still have all the fun parts of D&D. You’ll still see iconic spells, characters, and locations from D&D. I think Warlock is trying to balance being a great experience that is both accessible to newcomers and longtime fans of D&D.”
We can't wait to get our hands on this one. Already. 2027 is shaping up very nicely.
