Playground Games’ Fable reboot is already looking immense, and these comparison shots made with the classic games makes me want it even more.

As shown off last week, Fable is set to revive the longtime Xbox series when it launches later this year, and it looks like Playground Games isn’t shying away from tying it in with the locations from the first three games.

As seen in the gameplay overview released during the Xbox Developer Direct last week, it appears that Fable will once again feature Bowerstone, the largest city in Albion that has been in each of the three main titles.

What’s more, many of Bowerstone’s landmarks from the first three games are set to appear in the new game too, showing that Playground Games has done its research in designing the city.

Playground Games' Fable Will Be Heading Back To Bowerstone

Comparison shots made by one user on the Fable Reddit page have immediately brought back a huge dose of nostalgia for me, seeing as these are locations I am intimately familiar with after being a fan of the series for more than 20 years.

The images show locations such as North Bowerstone, Bowerstone Old Quarter, Fairfax Castle, and of course, the Heroes’ Guild.

And for what it’s worth, a lot of these images seem pretty spot on. The locations match almost like-for-like, with some changes here and there. As this is a reboot, that’s to be expected, but it could also show the passing of time if the reboot is set a century or two after the original trilogy. Check out some more below!

As fans have pointed out, some of the geography of Bowerstone has changed in this new iteration compared to the older games.

For example, the bridge that goes over Bowerstone River connects to Bowerstone Old Town rather than Bowerstone Market. Little things like that.

There’s also the pretty big detail that the Heroes’ Guild seems to be located inside Bowerstone, when in the earlier games it was located outside of the city. This seems like the only major change so far, though I’m still waiting to see if any Demon Doors show up.

Altogether, this has got me wanting to fish out my old Xbox 360 copies of the original Fable trilogy to tide me over until the reboot releases.

I’d play them on PC, but the experience is less than ideal, so playing them on console is your next best bet.
