Resident Evil Veronica is the next remake on Capcom’s list, and it has the potential to be the best one yet.
There’s a lot to be excited for, but after listening to the game’s producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi at Summer Game Fest, below you’ll find the seven things you should get the most hyped about.
Starting with an obvious one, Claire’s search for her brother Chris in Paris. In Resident Evil: Code Veronica Claire’s investigation takes her to France, and while searching yet another secret Umbrella facility, she’s captured and sent to Rockfort Island. All of this is conveyed to the player via an opening cinematic rather than gameplay.
In the remake’s reveal trailer, we get to actually see Claire visit Chris’ temporary apartment, suggesting we’ll also get to explore the aforementioned Umbrella facility as a playable area.

During the presentation at Summer Game Fest, Yoshiaki Hirabayashi teased a greater effort to link the events of Code Veronica to the wider Resident Evil timeline.
Speaking of timelines, many expected Resident Evil 5 to be the next remake, so Resident Evil Veronica is a bit of a curveball.
Where Resident Evil 4 (2023) is set six years after the Raccoon City incident, Resident Evil Veronica takes place just three months after Leon and Claire’s escape.
While it could have made more sense to remake Resident Evil 5 rather than go back in time to Code Veronica, this may actually be a genius move from Capcom. Both Chris and Wesker reunite in the original game and will likely reunite in the remake, too. This will make their final confrontation in Resident Evil 5 all the more rewarding, especially when so many gamers will have dismissed and skipped the original Code Veronica release when playing through the series.
This will, in all likelihood, be addressed in the Resident Evil 5 remake, but the seeds could be sown in Resident Evil Veronica.
Resident Evil Requiem introduced us to Zeno, a clone of Wesker who, in all honesty, was the worst part of the game. He turns up about halfway through the game, and his origins are never explored. It feels like he’s just there for fans to point their fingers at.

Since Wesker will feature in Resident Evil Veronica’s story now would be a good time to start hinting at Wesker’s backup plans, either through a dedicated scene at the end of the game or a sneaky Easter Egg.
Now this is exciting for a number of reasons, but the main one is accessibility. The Resident Evil remakes aren’t just eye-candy after all, they’re designed to make the series more accessible to new players.
In the case of Resident Evil: Code Veronica this is sorely needed as the OG game was quite challenging. It’s arguably the toughest game in the series.
There’s so much backtracking, the enemies are more numerous/aggressive, and inventory management is more important than ever. The remake isn’t just going to make Rockford Island look prettier; it’ll also make it less of a hassle to explore.
Despite its rage-inducing layout and horrors beyond human comprehension, Rockfort Island is without a doubt one of the best locations in the Resident Evil series.
The gothic architecture is haunting and oppressive, which really helps it stand out from other locations like the Arklay Mountains, Raccoon City and The Baker Plantation, just to name a few.
We’ve already seen what wonders can be achieved with previous remakes, so we have no doubt Resident Evil Veronica is going to be something special.
Perhaps this is a bit harsh, but Steve Burnside is the worst side character in Resident Evil history. Even Zeno in Resident Evil Requiem was more compelling.

However, all of that could change in Resident Evil Veronica, as one thing these remakes do exceptionally well is flesh out the side pieces. Ada in Resident Evil 2, Carlos in Resident Evil 3 and Ashley in Resident Evil 4 all got better representation in their respective reimaginings, so perhaps Resident Evil Veronica will be Steve’s time to shine.
That said, when asked about Steve’s involvement, Hirabayashi joked that he doesn’t even think Steve is in the remake…
Finally, we couldn’t talk about Resident Evil Veronica without giving Claire Redfield some love. It’s been so long since we last saw her, and we’re eager to see how this remake treats her.
At Summer Game Fest, Hirabayashi was asked how Claire will control in comparison to the other Resident Evil characters, and while she won’t be doing roundhouse kicks like Leon or punching boulders like Chris, she'll have a few tricks up her sleeve.
