If only these were real

Part of Animal Crossing: New Horizons' charm is its super cutesy, cartoon-like presentation, but it turns out Nook's Cranny, The Able Sisters and the Museum are just as cute when rendered photo-realistically, too.

While the images first popped up on China's Twitter equivalent, Weibo, they've since been shared by Happy Breakfast on Reddit, too, where loads of Animal Crossing fans have been mesmerised by the "real-life" recreations of their favourite New Horizon locations. Here, take a peek yourself:

"Shut up and take my Bells! I'll be ready tomorrow morning!" said one commenter, while another added: "This needs to be a theme park."

As spotted by GamesRadar+, it seems the videos are a composite of real-life and computer graphics, which is why they look so incredibly realistic.

"AKA, only pieces of this were rendered in a 3D program like Blender or Cinema 4D, and then certain assets were used to basically simulate the motion of camera zoom and parallax," explained Redditor WobbityJenkins. "Plus if you look again, you can see that the water doesn't react to the further upside down surfboard. A 3D program's water simulation would have the water reacting differently."

In our Animal Crossing: New Horizon review, we awarded it an excellent 8/10, stating: "I already can't wait to see what summer, autumn and winter have in store, with their own seasonal events, fish, and bugs. I'm just happy to take my time, pay my loans, water my plants, and live my best island life at my pace. While New Horizons doesn't do much - or anything at all, really - to win over anyone who didn't 'get' Animal Crossing previously, veteran fans and interested newcomers alike will find 2020's sweetest, most wholesome game yet."
