Yesterday saw PlayStation surprise us with yet another major update to its hit game Astro Bot.

Developed and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment for the PlayStation 5 as a way of celebrating the company’s 30th anniversary, Astro Bot was an instant hit back in 2024 and even went on to win Game of the Year.

Since then, PlayStation has regularly surprised fans with random updates which mainly consist of extra levels being added to the platformer title.

That is precisely what happened yesterday when the official PlayStation Twitter account revealed that five new levels had been added to Astro Bot as part of the Vicious Void Galaxy.

This means that Astro Bot is now home to 90+ levels to get stuck into and there is no doubt that this number will continue to grow in the future.

“The 5 levels available will be: Twin-Frog Trouble, Suck It Up, Handhold Havoc, High Inflation and… well. You’ll have to play and see,” the official PlayStation blog post reads.

However, there is even more exciting news.

As part of the new update, new Bots will also be added to the game and although PlayStation did not spoil who it may be, one fan over on Twitter soon discovered the much-loved cameo.

That’s right, it is none other than Final Fantasy’s Cloud as he and his blonde locks and massive sword have now joined the Astro Bot crew.

“Thank you!” The original poster claimed while one comment replied, “That is sick”.

News of Cloud’s Astro Bot debut soon spread online and it was not long before fans were losing their minds, especially when they soon realised that he was joined by Sephiroth.

“That's the one franchise that people have been complaining about (or begging for) since Day 1. Thank you, Team ASOBI and may Astro Bot bless your souls,” one Reddit user said over on r/Astrobot.

Another agreed, adding, “Better late than never for the Square Enix characters.

Also both of the interactions with these two are amazing lol. It just fills me with joy.”

It remains to be seen who else will join Astro Bot’s extensive character list but there is no doubt that fans are overwhelmed with the latest cameos.
