'Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War' Is Apparently Bricking PS5s

Bricking it.

Since the PlayStation 5 launch last month, there have been multiple reports of crashing games leading to bricked or unresponsive consoles that require a complete factory reset. Multiple users are now claiming that Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is the common denominator behind many of these crashes, with one Reddit user pointing the finger squarely at Activision's latest shooter.

Players have been reporting issues pretty much since the launch of the PlayStation 5. Black Ops Cold War has been responsible for several unexpected crashes and bugs, while a fair few Xbox Series X/S users have also seen issues while attempting to run the shooter (thanks, Windows Central).

There have been multiple videos, tweets, and other posts documenting these issues, but Reddit user WillHar270 (via The Gamer) has arguably put together the most detailed thread on the problem.

"[Black Ops Cold War] has hard crashed the entire console," they wrote. "Only game that had been crashing for me on the PS5. Now when I turn it on none of my games will load without crashing and when games do start to load up the screen fills up with flickering and glitching pixels before the console goes dead."

They go on to acknowledge that these issues are not just the fault of Activision and that it's partially a console problem too, but that they can also attribute most of the crashes to Black Ops Cold War. "My console had been PERFECT until I started playing BOCW just 3 days ago," they explained. "Since then, countless crashes whilst playing BOCW to the point of bricking."

This post came just weeks after another Reddit user predicted these very issues would start to rear their heads. Froztbyte92 wrote that Black Ops Cold War had completely shut down their brand-new console, and warned that if it didn't get fixed soon, the issue could start to brick consoles entirely - something that has obviously happened to a lot of angry and upset gamers.

It's also worth noting, as Froztbyte92 does, that reports of crashing haven't been limited to Black Ops Cold War. Both Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered have been crashing an awful lot for many users, although Call Of Duty seems to be linked to most of the completely bricked PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X units.

This isn't the first time Call Of Duty players have had to complain about a game negatively affecting their hardware, as there were several reports of Warzone causing PlayStation 4 units to overheat and, in some cases, stop working altogether. While this latest problem is more than likely a commination of software and hardware issues, here's hoping Treyarch can get things sorted in time for Black Ops Cold War's first season of content on December 16th.
