Tick tock.

While the last few weeks have been all about Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, it sounds as if the spotlight could soon to be shifting to everybody's other favourite FPS franchise. According to multiple teasers shared by a popular YouTuber and various members of the DICE development team, a Battlefield VI reveal is coming soon.

As first reported by Alt/Char, YouTuber JackFrags has started sharing videos of older Battlefield games, all containing cryptic hints that seem to point towards something bigger on the horizon. One teaser during a Battlefield V video, which can be seen at the 10:00 mark in the video below, shows a broken watch with both hands seemingly stuck on "6". The striking image is accompanied by an ominous "ticking" sound... which is pretty ruddy mysterious.

As if that wasn't fishy enough, DICE senior designer Niklas Astrand has also gotten in on the fun. In a reply to a tweet alerting fans to jackfrag's Battlefield video, the developer playfully replied with the message: "tick tick tick". Do these guys know something we don't? I would say most definitely.

This wouldn't be the first time a developer or publisher has worked with influencers to build up hype for a larger reveal. Activision regularly sends little snippets of Warzone footage to popular streamers to tease out larger updates, and EA often works with content creators to get people in the mood for new Battlefield titles. I can't imagine the publisher's approach to Battlefield VI will be any different in that regard.

Apart from a very brief first-look earlier this year, DICE has been pretty quiet as it continues to work on the latest Battlefront. The most recent report on the shooter suggests that game's core multiplayer is being designed around the classic 32-vs-32 battles that fans of the franchise are familiar with... but that maps are being built to support matches of up to 128 players.

EA previously teased the massive scope of the upcoming game during EA Play, promising that Battlefield VI will "create epic battles at a scale and fidelity unlike anything you've experienced before". While we still don't know exactly what era the new game will be set in, rumours do suggest that the FPS will return the franchise to a modern day setting.

In terms of a release date for the title, it sounds like 2021 is looking the most likely. Earlier this year, EA basically confirmed that Battlefield VI would be released in 2021, noting that DICE had already pretty much wrapped up work on Star Wars Battlefront II and Battlefield V. A full reveal could be coming any time, then.
