From developer NeocoreGames, King Arthur: Knight's Tale is a new role-playing tactical game which will be told from the perspective of the king's mortal enemy.

As per the legend, King Arthur and his nemesis, Sir Mordred, did a big fight and the latter prevailed over the former. However, with his dying breath, Arthur slew Mordred, and now, the Lady of the Lake has tasked Mordred to kill what remains of Arthur's spirit. Trapped in Avalon, a magical realm of immortal beings, Arthur is corrupting Britannia with nightmares, ruin, and pestilence. The only way to save the kingdom, and the world, is to end his reign from beyond the grave.

If you ask me, it looks a little like Diablo mixed with a dash of XCOM. "Knight's Tale is a modern retelling of a classic Arthurian mythology story filtered through the dark fantasy tropes, a twist on the traditional tales of chivalry," said the studio on the game's Kickstarter. "Control a small team of heroes and fight gruelling, but satisfying battles with a deeply engaging, tactical turn-based combat system."

The player is able to recruit more than 30 knights across five diverse classes to aid them in their quest, and managing their expectations of you is also a major mechanic. Due to the branching storyline and morality meter, characters will react differently to different decisions, and can conflict with each other. They may even abandon you and be on the warpath if they're properly ticked off by what you choose to do.

In addition to vanquishing monsters and killing creatures, Sir Mordred will also be a bit of a home bird. The player will rebuild Camelot and improve their Stronghold with new buildings that let them unlock new upgrades for battle. The knights will be healed up and managed through the Stronghold, too, so it's like XCOM in this respect. And, the endgame content will reveal random quests, loot, character progression, and never-before-seen formidable boss battles. This lets players gear themselves up for the ultimate trial: the banishing of Balor, the hideous god-king of the Fomorians himself.

With stunning photo-scanned environments and high-quality mocap animation, King Arthur: Knight's Tale is in development for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, and is aiming for a launch of Q1 2021.
