Red Dead Redemption 2 free DLC available for next 48 hours

Roam in style

Every year, I ask Santa Claus for a blue Torranca Coat.

He’s yet to actually fulfil my wish but as it turns out, I don’t need to keep asking as I can currently pick one up for myself in Red Dead Online.

Years after it was abandoned, Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode, Red Dead Online, seems to be experiencing somewhat of a second lease of life.

It’s early days, I’ll admit, but the game has just received its first major content update in several years.

‘Strange Tales of the West Vol. 1’ is about the closest we’ve come to getting Undead Nightmares 2.

The update brings all of the usual bits and bobs we’ve come to expect from Red Dead Online updates, including free items and new gold, RDO$ and XP opportunities, but so too has it added new original content.

But first, that blue Torranca Coat.

Until 14 July, Naturalists at Rank 15 or higher will receive the coat simply for logging in.

From 15 to 21 July, you’ll then be able to receive a blue Porter Jacket for hunting a legendary bear, followed by red Concho Pants for completing three Role Challenges from 22 to 28 July, with a red Manteca Hat up for grabs to those who sell two Samples to Harriet Davenport from 29 July to 4 August.

Elsewhere, I highly suggest you partake in these brand new missions I mentioned: The Plague, Modern Science, The Bayou, and The Wilderness.

The Plague will have you battling zombies, while Modern Science brings artificial life to Red Dead Online.

Cult-like swamp folk and a swamp creature seem to be the antagonists of The Bayou, while The Wilderness puts you up against a murderous group.

You can read the update’s patch notes on the Rockstar Games blog.

This is Vol. 1 of ‘Strange Tales’ so more is clearly on the way.

You have to admit, it’s incredibly odd that that’s the case when Rockstar previously said it was done with Red Dead Online.

You can see why so many fans are reading into this and theorising what it might mean for Red Dead Redemption 2 and that long-awaited new-gen update.

In the meantime though, don’t forget to nab your free coat.
