Star Wars fans discover real reason Yoda bailed on his duel with Palpatine

Bailed, Yoda did

Star Wars fans have learned the real reason why Yoda bailed during his battle with Emperor Palpatine.

The Star Wars universe has some of the most powerful characters in the history of cinema, from the likes of Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker, Luke Skywalker, and Darth Plagueis, to name a few.

Another two names thrown into the hat are the aforementioned Jedi Master Yoda and Emperor Palpatine, aka Darth Sidious. Both of which had an epic, albeit brief, lightsaber duel in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith.

The duel in question between Yoda and Palpatine took place in the Senate on the planet Coruscant, after the Jedi Council learned of Palpatine’s plans to overthrow the Jedi Order for his Galactic Empire to rule the galaxy.

The battle only lasted a few minutes before Yoda decided to bail, but why did the wise and powerful little green dude come to that decision? A question asked by a Star Wars fan on Reddit.

“Why didn't Yoda fight the Emperor til death?” asked Past_Driver_6463. “Most of his Jedi were already dead, the Order destroyed, so why not go full on against Palpatine?

“Yoda wasn’t going to win, he underestimated how strong Palpatine was, at that point he lost his lightsaber, and the clones were on their way,” replied TheWiseScrotum. “It was in the novelisation, he basically realised that he couldn’t win and had a brief vision of the future.”

“He either died fighting, knowing that the Order was done, or he fled in the hopes that he could regroup with a way to take down the Emperor. The Order either died with him there, or he lived to fight another day.”

It’s kind of like when encountering a seemingly unbeatable boss in a FromSoftware game. You can stubbornly fight on, knowing that you’re probably going to end up worse off over the next few minutes, or you wisely retreat to regroup and form a new plan of attack.

Perhaps someone who has been corrupted by the Dark Side may have been defeated by their ego, which may have led to their death, compared to a Jedi who realises that not every battle wins the war.
