As Adobe's Support Ends, Thousands Of Flash Games Are Being Saved

If you've been on the internet for long enough, you may have fond memories of playing Flash games for hours on end - honestly, I hate to think how many hours I spent trying to get a Yeti to catapult a penguin as far as it possibly could. But as Adobe prepares to stop its support of Flash at the end of 2020, you may be wondering what will happen to all of those games that seemed to be everywhere ten or so years ago.

Luckily, Flashpoint is a project doing its best to gather as many of these games as possible with the goal of allowing you to download and play them. It has currently saved over 36,000 games and animations (the list is huge!) and you're able to suggest others that you think should be added, if one of your favourites isn't on the list.

After Adobe announced the end of Flash support back in 2017, many big companies made the switch to Unity or HTML5, but there are still a lot of games that will be lost forever at the end of 2020. While Flash games don't really compare to the games we play these days, they were a huge part of internet history and acted as a gateway for many into the world of gaming. We even put a video together on some of the best of them...

"Internet history is important, and content made on platforms such as Adobe Flash are a significant portion of that culture doomed to obscurity." states Flashpoint, "This project is dedicated to preserving as many games and animations from these platforms as possible, so that they aren't lost to time."

The download page gives you a couple of options. The Ultimate version will give you everything that Flashpoint has collected so far and allows you to play at any time but boasts a hefty 241GB download. The Infinite version is much more thoughtful of your hard drive space and allows you to download games and animations individually.

This is great for a nostalgia fix if nothing else - and, of course, the perfect solution to those quiet afternoons at work.
