Xbox drops 5 free games you can download and play this weekend

Play some great games for free

If you’re itching to play some great games this weekend and beyond, then look no further than these five Xbox delights.

As much as having free time to ourselves is a blessing, sometimes it can be frustrating when we have nothing to keep us occupied during that free time, making our supposed chill days feel much longer than we had hoped.

Thankfully, at least, if you’re an Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Standard or Core subscriber, you can play these games for free over the next few days.

As brought to our attention by True Achievements, think of these five Xbox games that are playable this weekend as trials similar to what’s offered with PlayStation Plus Premium.

When we jump into these Xbox freebies, not only will you earn achievements, but the save progress will carry over should you decide to buy the full game.

What’s more, if you do make the full purchase, each of the titles included in the ‘Free Play Days’ promotion are currently discounted.

As of right now, until the end of play on Tuesday, 22 July 2025, you’ll be able to play Skull and Bones, Breakout Beyond and Atomicrops, as well as a 10-hour trial to Blades of Fire and the Destiny 2 expansions.

With Destiny 2 being a free-to-play title, most of its DLC are also currently discounted during this promotion.

Atomicrops: “You own the last farm in the post-apocalypse wasteland, inherited from your late grandfather’s will mere moments before the surrounding countryside gets vaporised in a nuclear blast.”

Blades of Fire: “From the award-winning studio MercurySteam, comes a new action-adventure where you forge your own weapons and face fierce enemies in a unique combat system. Join Aran de Lira on his journey to find the real purpose of his fate!”

Breakout Beyond: “In this neon-drenched take on the classic, you’ll need to literally break through each puzzle by clearing bricks to breach the final goal. Rack up a combo and create spectacular light shows alone or with a friend.”

Destiny 2: “Dive into the world of Destiny 2 to explore the mysteries of the solar system and experience responsive first-person shooter combat. Unlock powerful elemental abilities and collect unique gear to customise your Guardian's look and playstyle.”

Skull and Bones: “Set sail into the vibrant open world of Skull and Bones, a naval online action RPG where you rise to become the most fearsome pirate kingpin. Customise your fleet, craft unique ships, and forge formidable weapons to dominate in exhilarating sea battles.”

Hopefully, at least one of the above tickles your fancy and keeps you busy over the next few days.
