A recently leaked update regarding The Elder Scrolls VI’s current development progress is giving some fans hope the game will actually drop in 2026, but how credible is said leak?
Alright, let’s start with the context in case you missed it.
Earlier this week, Windows Central’s Jez Corden appeared on The Xbox Two podcast and decided to drop an update on the progress of Bethesda’s upcoming, much-anticipated mega-hit, The Elder Scrolls VI.
Now, Corden’s update was pretty vague if you ask me, but there’s one soundbite from it that’s been circling the internet.

During the segment where they discussed the current state of Bethesda’s upcoming projects, including Fallout 5, Corden stated that The Elder Scrolls VI is in a “quite playable” state.
What does “quite playable” mean, exactly? Who bloody knows. Could mean that there’s a vertical slice ready. Could mean that it’s 99% of the way there. Could mean absolutely nothing.
Some fans over on the r/TESVI subreddit have entered full cope mode however, with many assuming that this means that a 2026 release date for The Elder Scrolls VI is now possible.
“My instinct is to say: lol, sure buddy,” commented user Daisy-Fluffington.

“But I dismissed the Oblivion Remaster until I saw literal screen shots, so... perhaps?”
“Where’s my 2026 gang? We so back”, replied user Lord_Greedyy.
Look, I’ll be honest with you– I think this is bollocks.
If you want the long version, read this article where I waffled about how I think it’s nonsense for like eight paragraphs.

If you want the short version, here it is: saying that The Elder Scrolls VI is “quite playable” is a vague enough statement that it probably is true, because it could mean anything.
I know a lot of people are running wild with this “leak”, but I think its vagueness is intentional. That way, whenever The Elder Scrolls VI does come out, Corden can pretend he was right the whole time, regardless of the date of its release.
When it comes to TES VI, don’t believe anything you can’t see with your own two eyes. Everyone knows it's a hot-button topic to talk about, and talking about it in purposefully indeterminate terms is just another form of clout chasing.
