Steam drops 8 new free games, no subscription needed

Free game goodness!

Richard Lee Breslin

If you want to claim a free batch of Steam games to keep forever, then you’re in the right place, my fellow bargain hunter.

In this day and age, bargain hunting is possibly more important than ever with the cost-of-living crisis. It’s why bagging free games can be such a godsend, especially when it comes to positive mental health, to help distract us from our worldly woes.

Services such as PlayStation Plus and Xbox Game Pass are great for saving money, with a monthly subscription fee often being much less than a newly released AAA game, but free games are always a cost-free bonus.

Not to mention, there are some fantastic free-to-play titles out there, such as Fortnite, Fall Guys, Call of Duty: Warzone and Rocket League, which make it easy to avoid the temptation of being enticed by microtransactions.

However, if you want to check out some free indie games that may have flown under your radar, the Twitter account ‘Free Steam Games’ is a great place to start.

Courtesy of ‘Free Steam Games’, here are eight games that you can download and play for free today:

  • Atuel: “Is an award-winning surrealist documentary game in which you explore beautiful, dreamlike landscapes inspired by the topography and wildlife of the Atuel River Valley in Argentina.”
  • Bee careful!: “A defiant Bee puzzle where you will have to control different groups of bees by remote control to collect pollen, avoid obstacles and be able to take them to the honeycomb.”
  • Bobcos: “Is a 2D multiplayer sandbox game where you can build your world, trade with others, fish, chat, and customise your avatar. Create personal worlds, run shops, and explore a persistent online world with seasonal events and regular updates.
  • Brainrot Battle Royale: “Dive into Brainrot Battle Royale! Fight to the death in Ohio with the greatest brainrot characters in the ultimate Gen Z showdown. Join the fight now, aurafarmer.”
  • Culinary Wizard: “A magical action platformer following the life of an apprentice chef learning to master the secrets of the culinary arts under the tutelage of a newfound teacher. Journey through magical lands, bring ingredients to life, and slay foes using kitchen tools, all in a classic 32-bit pixel art style.”
  • Idle Guy: Life Simulator games: “Is a life simulation game in which absolutely everything is available. Adventures in a real-life business simulator are waiting for you. Build a Rich Inc. campaign in the world of a life simulator.”
  • Mobile Police Officer EARTH Gumble: “Side-scrolling, belt-scrolling, exhilarating action game. A very, very, very difficult berserk game in which the player tries to defeat the last boss with no recovery of energy at all!”
  • Springuins: “Take on the role of Flare and Breeze, far from their home, as they try to make their way through the blooming spring in this puzzle game adventure. Control a single penguin to collect cherry blossoms that sync their movements to reunite the pair across challenging, cleverly designed levels.”

So, there you have it, those are eight free games that you can download today from Steam and be sure to give ‘Free Steam Games’ a follow on Twitter.
