Free games are free games, after all

Now, obviously none of you will need introducing to the Steam storefront at this point, but it really has become the go-to place for cheap and even free games on the PC, far outdoing its console rivals in terms of regular and almost irresistible deals.

Sales are obviously great, but there's something particularly special about being able to pick up a full gaming experience without spending any of our hard earned cash.

Thankfully, developers all over the world elect to release their games at no cost to us, either to increase awareness about their finished products or simply because what they are releasing was always intended to be free to the consumer.

Now, eight new games have just hit the store and there's examples from across the genre spectrum, meaning you should be able to find enjoyment in at least one or two if you decide to take the plunge.

As originally pointed out by the aptly named Free Steam Games on Twitter/X, there are eight new releases that you lovely players should be aware of next time you login to Steam

The first is CEREBRUM Remastered, a challenging 2D puzzle-platformer where you'll be running, jumping and attacking to work your way through and defeat the bosses. Each time you manage to do so, you'll awaken an ally from their slumber and gain access to them as the player. Those come with new and unique powers which will allow you to progress further and use various tactics.

EvoSprout is a casual small-scale farming simulator where you need to manage your little garden from a top-down perspective. You'll spend time upgrading your tools and crops, as well as combining them to make new produce. If you're into cosy, then this is undoubtedly one to take a look at.

Panic Room: Ghosts of the Past is a hidden object game where you're trying to find a way out of a dark and ominous mansion that you find yourself in. It's a hark back to an earlier period of PC gaming and looks well executed from start to finish.

Rounding out the list we have on-rails action shooter Trium, strategic card game Decktoon, casual job simulator Dave's Wrecking Yard 3D, educational running and quiz game Steppe Rider and 2D MMORPG Kando.

As mentioned earlier, all are available entirely for free, so check them out and see which ones scratch the right itch.
