It always used to be the case that the works of the MCU were inspired by Marvel Comics, or at least the characters from that world.
The relationship is now seemingly much more two-way though.
The MCU still takes heavy inspiration from Marvel’s extensive back catalogue, with an adaptation of Secret Wars on the horizon.
So too though has Marvel Comics taken inspiration from the MCU, expanding on storylines or bringing across MCU characters.

And that’s seemingly exactly what’s taken place when it comes to a new event series that’s just been announced.
Marvel Comics has formally revealed Ultimate Endgame, a new event series that will kick off in December, putting an end to its much-celebrated Ultimate Universe run.
Ultimate Universe is worlds away from the MCU, and has been running for around two years.
I won’t delve into every storyline, but it’s featured unlikely crossovers, new versions of fan-favourite characters, and shock deaths.

While the Ultimate Universe has walked its own path so far though, Ultimate Endgame seems to be taking far more inspiration from the MCU.
Details are practically non-existent at the moment with Marvel teasing that more information is due later this week.
It did drop a poster though, with that poster confirming that we’re getting somewhat of an adaptation of the MCU’s Endgame.
You see, Endgame isn’t based on any one particular comic; it takes inspiration with regards to certain elements, sure, but it’s an original story.

And the teaser poster for Ultimate Endgame shows a giant ‘U’ for ‘Ultimate’ disintegrating, referencing Thanos’ snap in the film.
With that in mind, Ultimate Endgame is likely going to see many of the universe’s heroes perish and fans aren’t quite ready to go through that.
“I don’t think I have the heart to say goodbye to Ultimate Spider-Man again,” wrote Reddit user GIJose65.
“Praying for my GOATs, the Ultimates and the last real Peter Parker,” added spectralSpices.

I must say, I feel much the same way.
MCU Peter Parker may have temporarily perished in the snap but god, I am praying that his Ultimates version lives on.
With Ultimate Endgame not beginning until December, we’ve got a long wait ahead of us, but we’ll keep you posted on those developments that arrive in the meantime.
