With the last proper Silent Hill game, Book of Memories for the PlayStation Vita, now eight years old (and "proper" is a push, there), it's safe to say that fans of Konami's horror series will latch upon any tease or clue whatsoever as a sign of the spooky franchise making a return.
And that's precisely what happened the other day (July 31) when Konami tweeted out a minute-long clip of the siren from 2001's Silent Hill 2. (Shivers, still.) They wrote: "Close your eyes. Always scary. Silent Hill 2 Siren." And, inevitably, immediately, fans began to speculate as to what the tweet could mean.
It turns out, sadly, it just meant that whoever runs the Konami Twitter account had been watching clips of Dead By Daylight - which recently added Silent Hill content - and was getting a little nostalgic. They posted, to follow up the siren clip: "asy there internet. We were watching streams of Dead By Daylight and thought we would share the noise and feel of being hunted. We wont take the tweet down and "backpedal", we just wanted you to enjoy it."

Konami then went a little further, actively apologising for getting fans excited: "We are sorry we got people fired up. Anything official would come from first from @SilentHill or an event or something, not from us. We were just being fans and enjoyed the noise/memories. Sorry everyone, did mean to kill your Friday mood."
But what's interesting here isn't the backtracking and the apology, oh no. As picked up by Eurogamer, the @SilentHill account that Konami links to is really, really new. Less-than-a-month-old kind of new. Which could mean that Konami is planning something new for Silent Hill, right? We keep on hearing that something's cooking for the franchise, with a new game strongly rumoured for a reveal during June's PlayStation 5 event (that didn't happen, obviously). At the start of July, another rumour circulated that the reveal of a new Silent Hill game remains imminent - and it'll be exclusive to PlayStation 5. We're very sure that, firstly, another PlayStation 5 show is happening before the console's release (perhaps this month); and secondly, that Sony has a number of trump cards still up its sleeve.
So, while these tweets might not be the official confirmation of a new Silent Hill that fans have been waiting for since, like, forever (in gaming terms, at least), there's so much smoke around the series right now that, surely, there has to be a fire somewhere. At this point I'm almost willing to bet my collection of limited-edition Metal Gear promo junk that we'll be seeing a fresh entry in the Silent Hill series announced in the next few weeks, with or without (but most likely with) PlayStation exclusivity.
