'Call Of Duty: Warzone' Players Discover Something Hiding Under The Ice

I haven't played Call Of Duty: Warzone for a few weeks now, but I've really enjoyed following the community as it explores Verdansk for strange Easter eggs and mysterious teasers.

It's clear that something big is happening in-game soon, right? The bunkers are open, there are wolves howling around the map, and there are even unarmed nuclear warheads and Cold War-era planes hiding in the game. We assumed that the launch of Season 4 last week would introduce new threads to follow, and we were right. Players have now reported seeing... something hiding under the ice.

Reddit user Ronny972 first reported the unusual activity. While playing around the dam area near the top of Verdansk, they saw a massive oval-shaped shadow pass underneath them. They then decided to jump in a helicopter to get a better look, and noticed the shadow pass underneath the dam and out of sight. See for yourself below. It's definitely the wrong shape to be a cloud, right?

So what the heck is going on? Ronny972 reckons the black shape under the ice is a Russian submarine, and the majority agrees. It's also been speculated that there's some kind of tunnel system running underneath the dam that's connected to the various bunkers, and that's where the sub disappeared to.

And what do we already know is sitting inside more than one of those bunkers? Nuclear missiles, only a few of which are currently armed. If you weren't already worried, players have worked out that the submarine's path would take it directly to Bunker 11... which as of Season 4 contains a live nuclear missile. Gulp.

Russian submarines and nuclear weapons certainly line up nicely with the reports that the next Call Of Duty is going to be Cold War-themed, don't they? This also tracks with rumours from earlier this year that suggested an explosive event in Warzone would lead to the announcement of Call Of Duty 2020,and potentially completely overhaul the battle royale map.

I'm super excited, guys. Also a little scared. It's not clear when such a game-changing event could happen, but I'd wager it won't be until nearer the end of Season 4. Expect a few other things to happen in the build up.

For example, there have been rumours that the dam is going to be hit with missiles and flood part of the map soon - perhaps this will be the first major move in a series of events that culminates in the nuclear missile wiping out the entire map. Things are getting serious.
