Stunning 'Battlefield 6' Next-Gen Teaser Shared During EA Play

EA and DICE has shared a first-look at the next-gen Battlefield game, which we'll be referring to as Battlefield 6 for now. The good news is that the "work in progress" footage we saw during last night's EA Play is absolutely stunning. The bad news is that it was an all-too brief look at what's to come.

You can take a look at the clip in question below at around the 45:47 mark. Alternatively, you can watch it via this link. It was kind of hard to get a sense of the time period or setting of the game from the brief footage shown, but it's clear that DICE is really pushing the boat out for this one, visually speaking.

It also sounds like we're in for the biggest and most ambitious Battlefield to date, as EA teased the massive scope of the upcoming entry. Laura Miele, Chief Studios Officer at EA said that the team is "creating epic battles at a scale and fidelity unlike anything you've experienced before". Colour me intrigued.

The most recent Battlefield 6 rumours suggest that the game will return the franchise to a modern day setting. Although again, the teaser footage didn't do much to confirm or deny these reports.

Earlier this month, industry insider Tom Henderson implied that the new game will be inspired by from 2011's Battlefield 3, a popular entry set in the modern day. Well, set in 2011, which I guess is now last decade. Let that sink in.

2016's Battlefield 1 took the shooter back to World War I, while 2018's Battlefield V was focused on World War II. It's been some time since Battlefield has taken place in a contemporary setting, but one imagines 2019's Modern Warfare reboot gently nudged EA and DICE back in the direction of the modern world for Battlefield 6.

As for a release date? The game doesn't sound like it's too far away. Just a few months ago, EA essentially confirmed that Battlefield 6 would be released in 2021, noting that DICE had already pretty much wrapped up work Star Wars Battlefront II and Battlefield V.

"The team at DICE is working on the standalone Battlefield V update releasing this summer, and continuing their work on delivering Community Games," an EA spokesperson said.

"While the studio's vision for Star Wars Battlefront II is now complete with this week's The Battle on Scarif Update, the servers, in-game challenges, recurring events and game support will continue as the game lives on with players and the community. We're looking forward to hearing players' stories for both games, for years to come.

"Longer term, the studio is focused on the future of Battlefield that we'll be bringing to players in 2021."
