We all know that The Witcher 4 is on the way but, in the meantime, one creator has made it possible to enjoy the OG game better than ever before.
Before the success of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt back in 2015, there were the original The Witcher games which followed Geralt of Rivia as he did what he does best; fighting monsters and seducing women.
With the first game, The Witcher, released back in 2007 and followed by The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings in 2011, these games gave players their first interaction with the CD Projekt RED RPG series but by today’s standards, they are pretty outdated.
Luckily, an official remake of The Witcher was announced back in 2022 under the codename Canis Majoris and it was revealed that it would be built in Unreal Engine 5.

However, with CD Projekt RED hard at work on both The Witcher 4 and a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, it may be a while until we see the official remake.
That being said, one creator has made it possible for us to experience an updated The Witcher right now and better yet, it is completely free to enjoy.
Modern Texture Upscale AIO is a free-to-download mod from Exist over on Nexus Mods and it allows the user to play The Witcher with over 3000 upscaled textures.
Put simply, this will make the 2007 title look better than ever ahead of its official remake.

“Quite a simple upscale, it contains most, if not all, of the textures you can see in the world (and probably some that are not even used lol),” the mod description reads.
“I used the bc1_smooth model to remove artifacts and Kim's latest PBRify_UpscalerV4 DAT2…
“The resolution difference compared to vanilla is mostly visible on close objects and when playing at higher resolution, it is not really "game changing" but makes the close-up textures less jarring.”
The mod page shows before and after images of environments and objects in-game that are now a lot more detailed and its creator has even offered a 4x version although they warn users that this has not been tested for long-term stability.

So if you want an excuse to replay the original The Witcher games ahead of The Witcher 4, then this free mod will greatly improve your experience.
