The long-rumoured PlayStation 5 reveal event is finally coming in a matter of weeks, an industry insider has confirmed. VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb, who previously predicted various Nintendo Direct dates, has suggested that Sony will be showcasing the PS5 and a selection of next-gen games in early June.
This tracks with previous reports from publications who claimed the event would be held in late May, though acknowledged there was the chance it could be pushed back to June. Grubb said that the event was planned for Thursday, June 4th, but a reshuffle has nudged it back a little further. At any rate, he expects it in the first half of the month.
Grubb's full report - which you can read here - also suggests that while the PS5 reveal event will showcase some third-party titles, we won't be seeing any first-party games. Maybe don't go in expecting sequels to God Of War and Bloodborne, then.

With that said, he does point to an further State of Play presentation in August. Supposedly, this will highlight a combination of current and next-gen games, presumably offering a deeper look at anything that gets announced during the June reveal and hopefully lifting the curtain on some first-party projects.
It's been a slow build to the actual PlayStation 5 reveal so far. March saw Sony finally show off the PlayStation 5's full specs in a tech-heavy deep dive, that excited only the most tech-savvy among us. A little later on, we got our first look at the console's brand-new DualSense controller.
More recently, we got our first real taste of what the console can do thanks a stunning Unreal Engine 5 tech demo. The fully playable tech demo, which was running in real-time, was a real sight to behold. Even if you didn't understand exactly what tech was being used to make it happen (which I didn't) you could still appreciate the beauty of it.
Not long after the presentation, Epic Games CEO and founder Tim Sweeney waxed lyrical about Sony's upcoming console. He explained that its the PS5's SSD (solid-state drive) that really helps the console stand out, thanks to its ability to enable faster loading times and, in turn, larger and more detailed worlds.

While Epic wouldn't comment on any hardware differences between the PS5 and Xbox Series X, Sweeney did say that the PS5's storage architecture is far ahead of "the best SSD solution you can buy on PC today." He added that it's "really exciting to be seeing the console market push forward the high-end PC market in this way".
