Harry Potter’s very first trailer has landed, with HBO’s TV reboot set to arrive sooner than we originally thought.
Officially titled Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, at least for the first season, the series will arrive “Christmas 2026” whereas it was originally down for a 2027 launch.
HBO has reiterated that the series will air an episode weekly rather than drop the whole lot at once, although we don’t yet know how many episodes there are.
HBO’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone looks much darker in tone than Warner Bros’ original film series which gradually introduced that sense of grit film by film.

It must be said, it’s incredible how familiar the trailer feels whilst also feeling entirely new.
The actors, costumes, and sets may be different, but it’s clear that they evoke the same feeling as those original films, something many feared wouldn’t be possible.
It’s quite subtle at this stage but the series also shares a visual kinship with Hogwarts Legacy.
That should come as no surprise given that Warner Bros. has already voiced that it was keen to link the two projects.
Hogwarts Legacy is set roughly 100 years before the events of the main Harry Potter saga, but it does look as if this newest version of Hogwarts borrows a few visual cues.
In the trailer, there’s a shot of the first year students arriving in Hogwarts’ entrance hall and while it’s not precisely the same as Hogwarts Legacy’s, it isn’t far off.

You can see a glimpse of one of the stone walls carved to look like a tree which, if I recall, is an architectural feature of Hogwarts Legacy’s version of the castle.
Plenty of fans rushed to comment on the similarities.
“These look like the ceilings in Hogwarts Legacy,” remarked one Twitter/X user.
“The columns have the same design of those of Hogwarts Legacy,” another added.
“Aesthetically, the show looks inspired by the Hogwarts Legacy game,” remarked one fan.
It’ll be interesting to fully compare the story’s various locations when Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone does begin airing.
It’s going to be a big ol’ couple of years for Harry Potter fans, even if we’ve got a while to wait until things truly get underway.
This September’s Back To Hogwarts Day will surely bring plenty of new teases ahead of the TV show’s premiere with the TV show taking us nicely into 2027.
In 2027, Warner Bros. has already promised that it’ll be a big year for its biggest gaming franchises, which surely means something Hogwarts Legacy related is on the way.
That’s most likely going to be an update on a sequel given that a DLC has already been cancelled for the game.
As for whether 2027 will bring the announcement or release of a sequel, we don’t yet know.
