The Marvel Rivals developers have been working closely with Marvel on the future of the game, including tie-in events with Avengers: Doomsday.
Marvel’s decision to scrap the Kang The Conqueror storyline in favour of Doctor Doom was initially met with criticism as many felt the move was made out of desperation rather than the best interest of the saga.
Over time though the majority of MCU viewers have warmed to the idea and are excited for Avengers: Doomsday to drop on 18 December this year.
A wave of teasers were rolled out towards the end of last year and more are expected to drop throughout 2026, and the ever-popular hero-shooter Marvel Rivals will seemingly be part of the action.
Advert
The new Path to Doomsday campaign has begun in the game, promising new content that takes inspiration from all of the Avengers films that have released thus far.
Last year a special collaboration was done to celebrate the release of Marvel Zombies, with players going to war against a zombified Scarlet Witch and her undead horde of minions.

Future collaborations will reportedly follow a similar formula, with a battle against Ultron and his robot army already teased.
In an interview with IGN at the latest Game Developers Conference, Marvel Games executive producer Danny Koo, publishing director Yachen Bian, and creative director Guangyun "Guangguang" Chen spoke about what players can expect from the shooter going forward.
Multiversal Mayhem
With content in the pipeline about Avengers: Doomsday many have naturally assumed the developers have been told ahead of time about some of the developments coming to the MCU.
On the topic of what’s on the horizon Koo told IGN that it’s "top secret," but the team has needed information ahead of time to “prepare for what's coming." Bian then added "We know what we can know."
With the relationship between Marvel Rivals and the MCU flourishing it’s expected that some of the future teases for Avengers: Doomsday will appear in Marvel Rivals.
The game already has a wealth of lore and with such a heavy emphasis on the multiverse and Doctor Doom the likelihood of references and possibly glimpses to what the MCU is currently cooking seems high.
Fortunately every Marvel fan can easily be part of the action as Marvel Rivals is free-to-play on all platforms, and there’s even a Nintendo Switch 2 port on the way, though no release date has been shared as of yet.
