Avengers: Doomsday has dropped its first official teaser trailer. Unfortunately for the MCU, the hype train has already left the station.
Marvel had the genius idea of putting teasers for Avengers: Doomsday before screenings of the new Avatar film, Avatar: Fire And Ash.
It made a lot of sense on paper. Lots of movie-goers have been making trips to cinemas all across the world to catch the new Avatar film, so why not treat them to a first-look at the next Avengers film while they’re there? Unfortunately though there’s been a slight hiccup with that plan, as the first teaser trailer leaked ahead of time.
Today (23 December) Marvel dropped the official teaser, and it’s the exact same one that was shown off in cinemas of a retired Steve Rogers arriving home on his motorcycle, taking a nostalgic look at his old Captain America suit and holding his newborn baby in his superhuman hands. It’s very moving and while it’s nice to see he'll be back to assemble the Avengers one last time this teaser just doesn’t have the same weight that Avengers: Endgame’s had.

For starters there’s been no real build-up to Avengers: Doomsday and a lot of that is down to Jonathan Majors being axed, and the character of Kang being pushed to the side in favour of Doom as the next big bad.

However even before Jonathan Majors was fired the MCU after Avengers: Endgame didn’t feel like it was building towards anything that meaningful, and when things did eventually start falling into place they were shaken up once again by the old guard returning to the fold.
Robert Downey Jr and Chris Evans return to screens as Doctor Doom and Captain America and while that’s exciting it does make you wonder where this leaves the likes of Sam Wilson’s Captain America, and the other heroes that were meant to assemble against this new threat.
I think playing the first teaser before Avatar: Fire And Ash was also a bit of a mistake.
Because if today was the first time we’d seen Avengers: Doomsday marketed it would have been huge. Seeing the teaser ahead of time through leaks and fan videos has unfortunately killed any momentum this teaser could now have.
Avengers: Doomsday will be a success regardless of course
The Avengers get people in seats and they’ll be lining up around the block to see Doctor Doom in the MCU. I'm just hoping Avengers: Secret Wars gets better treatment as far as teasers and trailers are concerned.
