Ubisoft has announced that Tom Clancy’s The Division 3 is in the works at Massive Entertainment.

That’s right, another instalment in The Division franchise is on the way - and we can only hope that the series keeps on stepping it up. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 landed in 2019, three years after the first instalment. The sequel didn’t do anything too drastic to change the formula, but Massive did listen to fans and carried out a number of subtle changes that easily make it the stronger of the two offerings. Weapons feel weighter, the missions more varied, and the environments more immersive and intense. We can only hope that this will all be built on further in the upcoming The Division 3.

Massive Entertainment’s Star Wars Outlaws is set to launch next year.

Massive Entertainment is now in the early stages of development on the third instalment. Don’t forget they’ve got Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars Outlaws to release first, but it looks as if efforts will then shift over to The Division 3. Star Wars Outlaws’ creative director Julian Gerighty is taking over as the executive producer of The Division, and will oversee the development of The Division 3.

Announcing the news via a press release, Ubisoft said, “This announcement represents Ubisoft’s dedication to the longevity of the brand. In his new role, Julian will drive the many interdependent production elements of The Division brand in a unified direction. This includes development oversight, operations, and creative vision together with the development teams around the world who are currently developing the mobile game Tom Clancy’s The Division Resurgence, Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2.”

Speaking of his experience with The Division franchise, Gerighty said, “There are only a few games that I can genuinely say blew me away the first time I saw them, and Tom Clancy’s The Division is one of them. I was immediately hooked, like so many others who are part of our devoted player community. It’s a privilege and an honour to be able to continue to build incredible and unforgettable experiences in this amazing world with the most talented teams around the world, and I can't wait for what’s next.”
